Tata's premium hatchback - the Altroz will be offered in three engine options - a naturally aspirated petrol, a turbocharged petrol and a turbocharged Diesel. The base variant of Altroz with the 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is derived from the Tiago but it will be equipped with a balancer shaft just like the Tigor to contain the NVH levels. Engine refinement holds great importance for Tata cars these days. The added balancer shaft will certainly decrease the power output of the motor but Tata has made the base Altroz lighter (15 kg lighter than Tiago) to counter the power loss. The turbocharged 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel variants of Altroz will host the same engine that powers the Nexon but they will be offered with low power and torque figures. The 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol motor will churn out 102 bhp and 140 Nm of torque. The latest offering from Tata will get the same gearbox unit as seen on Tata Tiago. Altroz is built keeping in mind the fuel economy and performance with advanced technology. The premium hatchback underpins Tata Motor's modern architecture called the ALFA (Agile Lightweight Flexible Advanced) platform.

There is a large infotainment system that takes care of music and navigation, equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Altroz will also sport a semi-digital instrument cluster. It can also get an air-cooled glove box and fully automatic climate control. The ALFA platform makes the cabin more spacious with ample amount of leg-room in the second row. The Altroz also gets a 17-inch wheels which is also a segment first.
Tata Altroz will certainly give its competition a run for their money with its overall premiumness, futuristic design, features and engine options. The premium hatchback segment is one of the most competitive section in India and Altroz's key competitors are Hyundai i20 (Rs 5.50-9.31 lakh), Maruti Suzuki Baleno (Rs 5.46-8.77 lakh) and Honda Jazz (Rs 7.40-9.34 lakh). We expect Tata Motors to launch the Altroz in late 2019 in the Indian market, around the festival season. However, we still await an official word on the pricing of the premium hatchback but it will be around Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh.
Tata has tasted some success with its new product launches in recent times and they will expect the same for the Altroz. In an official statement, the management promised that Tata Motors is aiming to make an impact in the PV segment in India with timely product launches.
