SUV is definitely one of the most popular segments in the Indian market. In the previous year, this particular segment found its buyers in huge numbers with the likes of Jeep Compass, Renault Captur, etc., and the new year is expected to be even better with new babies in the segment like the Tata H5X. While Jeep Compass has gained a lot of success since its debut in mid-2017, the Tata H5X is all set to take the centre stage at the Auto Expo 2018. Here is a brief comparison of the two SUVs for a clear understanding.
Exterior and Color
The overall design of the Jeep Compass is enhanced by a sturdy looking build with Compass badge over the front grille, Quad-Halogen headlamps with LED DRL, body-coloured door handles, signature 7-slot chrome-finished front grille, rear spoiler, LED taillights and alloy wheels. On the other hand, there is little known about the exterior of the Tata H5X, to be named as Tata Harrier, as the car was spied in heavy camouflage. The all-new car has been built on the same platform as that of the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Also, the car gets a Y-shaped element in the fog lamp cluster alongside flanked grille and sleek headlamps.
Interior and Features
Although the interior of the Tata Harrier is not officially public, we can still sense that it would possess all the elements to make the five-seater a worth of its price. Going by the spied images that have surfaced online, the new Tata product seems to have a spacious inside with utmost safety and entertainment features.
On the other hand, the American giant offers features like 3.5-inch graphic information cluster, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a premium leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Engine and Transmission
Jeep Compass comes in both diesel and petrol variants. The diesel trims are powered by a 2.0-litre Multijet II engine capable of giving an output of 170 bhp power at 3,750 revolutions per minute and 350 Nm torque. The power developed is transferred to the wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission system. The petrol variant gets a 1.4-litre Turbo MultiAir engine, which produces a maximum power of 159 bhp and peak torque of 250 Nm. The transmission system is taken care by a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DDCT dual-clutch automatic transmission.
As far as the engine specs of Tata H5X is concerned, it is likely to be powered by the Fiat’s 2.0-litre multijet diesel engine, which is capable enough to deliver an output of 140 bhp power. The engine will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

The price range starts from Rs 14.95 lakh and goes up to Rs 23.5 lakh for the top-end trim.
