Test Ride Review - Hero Splendor Pro Classic - The Wise Player
Snapshot: Splendor Pro Classic might be based on the same old Splendor but it makes sure that you are the center of attraction everywhere you go.
Hero Splendor is considered to be one of the most affordable, rugged and reliable motorcycle in the Indian market. When looking at sales numbers no other motorcycle comes close to the Hero Splendor. It has been the best option available for people living in both urban and rural areas as it is not only light on fuel expenses, but its spare parts are inexpensive and readily available almost everywhere. It can be safely crowned as one of the oldest players in the Indian motorcycle market which has earned respect for being a perfect Indian family motorcycle.
Keeping up with changing times, Hero Motorcorp took the Splendor and slapped it with cool looking rear seat cowl, low bent handle bar, single café racer seats and came up with an all new Splendor Pro Classic that is built for the sole purpose of serving a sensation. We have been riding the bike for more than a month now and still parked in our lot we don’t want to give it away.
Looks and Styling –
Splendor Pro Classic has been given a big round headlamp at the front that complements the low bent handle bar and bike looks perfect when staring from the exact front. The single seat blends perfectly into the café racer feel of the bike and is super comfortable even on the long rides. Hero could have changed the fuel tank shape and have opted for a bit bigger tank as it is the same tank from the old Splendor and doesn’t go well with a café racer outlook. Apart from this, if there is one more thing that was supposed to be bigger than it is the tyres. Leaving these tiny niggles behind, Pro Classic does look pleasing and is an eye catcher for sure.
Splendor Pro Classic runs on the same 97.2cc air cooled, 4-stroke single cylinder OHC engine as on the old Splendor. It delivers 8.36bhp of maximum power at 8,000rpm and 8.05Nm of peak torque at 5,000rpm. The engine comes mated to a 4-speed constant mesh transmission with smooth shifting experience. The engine might be the same, but feels more responsive and the bike feels quicker. When fully pinned down, this bike can touch 100kmph mark on highways. While cruising at a speed of 80-90kmph is no big deal and delivers a comfortable ride.
Ride Quality –
Being very light weight it is easy to flick through clogged-up city traffic and is not tiring at all. Splendor is known for delivering an admirable fuel mileage and we got about 63-65kmpl on our daily runs. It is equipped with telescopic hydraulic shocks at the front and 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear which ensures smooth ride be it highways, city roads or village’s gravel roads. The bike comes equipped with 2.75 x 18 - 42 P / 4 PR tyres at the front and 2.75 x 18 - 48 P / 6 PR tyres at the back, the tyres do provide decent grip on tarmac and are good enough for daily Indian roads. But we think the tyres could have been bit thicker just to add to the excitement of this café racer. The braking part is good to be true, considering the bike comes with drum units on the front and rear. Both brakes are powerful enough but wouldn’t scare you, at least not on the average speeds.
Hero Splendor Pro Classic is made for the young at heart, who have just started riding and want to explore the feeling of owning an entry segment but exciting motorcycle. It is a perfect package with style, low maintenance costs, reliability, comfort and a motorcycle that will set them apart. We can always demand for more from any motorcycle but the fact that it is being sold at a retail price of INR 50,500 justifies everything the Pro Classic offers.
