With the soaring fuel prices, fuel efficiency is the most principle factor that lures the Indian consumers. Diesel has known to be cheaper than the petrol, but what if you are filling your vehicle diesel at a price of petrol (priced same a couple months back). Ever gave a thought! But let me add this they are also known for returning better mileage as well. Though, Dieselgate scandal carried a voice of disrepute for it, but nothing is in our hands, especially fuel price regulation, diesel are still the best when it comes to spare some extra kilometres of our drive (from here what I meant is good mileage). So we have come up with some of the best fuel efficient (ARAI Certified) cars under a budget of Rs 10 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Swift & Dzire – 28.4 kmpl

Both Swift and Dzire are the not just the top selling cars from the manufacturers, but also makes a top spot in the list of most fuel efficient cars as well. With the Maruti’s tried and tested 1.3l DDiS diesel engine packed in the lightweight body, both returns an impressive fuel efficiency of 28.4kmpl. Since its launch in India, Maruti has changed the look of the car making it more youthful for the Indian consumers. The price for the Swift Diesel starts from Rs 5.99 lakh, whereas the diesel variant of Dzire gets a starting tag of Rs 6.56 lakh (Prices Ex Showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Ciaz (SHVS) - 28.09 kmpl

Ciaz is another strong contender in the mid-size sedan segment. Competing with the likes of the Honda City and Hyundai Verna, it still makes its way to the Indian consumers due to its undercut pricing. It comes with the same mild-hybrid SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) diesel engine that makes it a better option, compared to its other counterparts. Pricing for the SHVS variant starts from Rs 9.50 lakh (Prices Ex Showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Baleno - 27.39 kpml

No wonder, why Maruti is on the top of the list, the brand has done an indepth mass market study and they know that Indian consumers always rush for this factor. The Baleno rivals with Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz, but is a better whole-sole offer for consumers with its grown-up and attractive appearance, slew of features and not to forget the obvious mileage of the model. The Baleno diesel variant gets a starting price of Rs 6.51 lakh (Prices Ex Showroom, Delhi).

Honda Jazz - 27.3 kpml

It is not that easy to make a good fuel efficiency of 27.3 kmpl out a 1.5l diesel engine, but this Japanese brand has always been named for its technology, so not difficult for them and apart from that, Honda products also offers comfort and reliability. The price of the diesel variant starts from Rs 7.36 lakh (Prices Ex Showroom, Delhi).

Tata Tiago - 27.28 kpml

Tata Motors changed the thoughts of consumers when the Tiago struck their eyes. It is the first product tot be based on IMPACT design philosophy by Tata. Since its launch, the sales figures of this model are scaling up every month. That’s not all, you get a package of equipments with it too. The diesel base variant starts at Rs 4.16 lakh (Prices Ex Showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Ignis - 26.8 kpml

Ignis is one of the favourite car, among the youngsters – it’s quirky looks was a head-turner who all saw this for the first time it touched the tarmac. Packed with Maruti’s 1.3l diesel engine, it returns a fuel efficiency of 26.8 kmpl and along with that you also get a peppy drive with that big engine. The diesel Ignis base version gets a price tag of Rs 6.32 (Prices Ex Showroom, Delhi).

It comes packed with a 1.5l TDCi diesel engine that make 99bhp and personally I liked this one, where the diesel returns an impressive 25.83 kmpl. The diesel Figo gets a starting price tag of Rs 6.48 lakh (Prices Ex Showroom, Delhi).
