Top 3 Mid-Size SUVs In Indian Market

Snapshot: We have shortlisted three best mid-size SUVs in India that are available in both manual and automatic transmission

India is one of those countries where you can find the die-hard love for SUVs. Interestingly, in our country, every genre of buyers are very much interested in this segment, majorly, to flaunt the style with SUV's behemoth appeal. Also, the road conditions in India provoke the customers to choose the SUV cars over saloons and premium hatchbacks. Presently, we have a broad range of SUVs in our country that starts from the tiny Ford EcoSport and docked on the awestruck Range Rover. However, keeping the mass market in mind, we have shortlisted the 3 best mid-size SUVs that glare as a value for money buy in their segment.

Toyota Fortuner

The Toyota Fortuner is undoubtedly among the most sought after SUV cars in our country. The Japanese automaker launched the behemoth utility in 2009 and since that time it has been outselling every other car in its competition. Even initially, the Fortuner went on a booking period of upto 6 months. The car is powered by 3.0-litre D-4D common rail diesel engine that produces the power of 171 PS and torque of 343 Nm (171 PS and 360 Nm torque in Auto transmission). The drivetrain is featured in both 4X2 and 4X4 configuration with low-high range manual changer. Before its launch, Toyota's SUV range started from the Land Cruiser Prado whose price range is nothing less than a daydream for many. However, the Fortuner arrived as a great affordable package for Toyota fans in our country. The price range of Fortuner starts from Rs. 22.40 lakhs and goes upto Rs. 24.04 lakhs for top-end 4X4 variant.

2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

The korean automaker has recently launched the 3rd generation model of Santa Fe in India. The only SUV from Hyundai was almost disappear in the Indian market but 2014 Santa Fe seems more than enough in terms of performance, styling and features that, even, has bound us to add this modern styled SUV in our list. The futuristic firm fluidic treatment to the new Santa Fe has made it dramatically appealing in its segment. Along with the potent 2.0-litre diesel engine under its hood that churns out 197 PS of power and hefty 418 Nm of torque, the car comes with  loads of class-leading features like 12-way adjustable seats, 2 zone climate control, 6 airbags, 18-inch alloy wheels and LED equipped headlights. The company has also added sport, comfort and normal driving mode with hill assist and advance traction control to enhance safety and driving pleasure for the driver. The new Hyundai Santa Fe seems much promising in its competition and this time we do hope it to be a banger in the Indian market. Hyundai has launched the model in both 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive layout under three variants. The basic 2WD MT Santa Fe is priced at Rs. 26.30 Lakhs, 2WD AT- Rs. 27.15 lakhs and the top of the line 4WD AT variant comes with price tag of Rs. 29.25 lakhs (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).

Audi Q3

Arguably, Audi feels a bit out of this competitive horizon as neither the brand prestige matches with other two nor does it provide the equal seating capacity to the others. But one thing that makes it equally competitive is its potential to counter the rough roads along with the outstanding driving pleasure that neither of the other two deliver. The outstanding built quality, plush interiors and one mighty 2.0-litre TDI engine to power both 2WD and 4WD version is enough to convince the buyers in Rs. 25-35 lakhs segment. The oil burner generates the power of 174 horses with 380 Nm of torque which is mated to a 7-speed DSG auto gearbox. The rotational force reaches to the all wheel by Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system. However, the top-of-the-line Q3 is costlier by almost 5-6 lakhs in comparison to the aforementioned models, nonetheless, to make the product more competitive, the company introduced a stripped version of Q3 last year, called as Q3 Sport. By chopping the quattro system, replacing 7-Speed DSG with 6 speed manual transmission and discontinued a few more elements, the company has priced the Q3 Sport at Rs. 25 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
