Passenger car market in India grew 14.68% in April from last year. Top manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki witnessed 23% year-on-year growth in sales primarily on account of new models. In the month of April, Maruti sold 144081 units and witnessed growth of 11.4% over month of March. The car that sold most number of units was the Maruti Swift and saw a growth of 34.8% over last month. Alto was not the best seller but had adequate numbers and grabbed the second spot with growth of 19.5%.

Baleno saw a growth of 6.7% and sold 17530 units. In the fourth and fifth spot are the WagonR and Elite i20 that grew by 35.1% and 2.2% respectively.

Hyundai sales remained flat in comparison to the last month while Mahindra saw a percentage drop of 22.8. Followed by Honda and Toyota which saw drop of 23.6% and 6.41% respectively in sales.
With increased sales, Maruti is again in the position as the strongest manufacturer which has 52.48% share of the market, followed by Hyundai which has 16.30% market share.

Dzire which sold respectable number last month (15894 to be precise) and was in the third spot, sold only about half (8797) units in the month of April. The simple reason for this could be the upcoming launch of the new Dzire which is launching on 17th of May.
