In terms of sales, January is among the best of months, second only to the festive season where buyers tend to spend more. As expected, the car sales picked up and January registered decent sales numbers. January also saw Maruti emerging as the strongest player by consolidating the position even further, and it now holds 51% market share.
Cars among the top five also remain unchanged with Alto registering sale of 22998 (up from 17351 units last month). In the second and third spot, Dzire and WagonR registered 18088 and 14930 respectively. While Swift and Grand i20 found fourth and fifth place with sales of 14545 and 13010 units respectively. The comparison chart also shows the rate of change, with Alto at the top, registering 32.5% increase over last month, followed closely by Dzire and Grand i10 registering 23.5 and 23.7% increase. While Wagon-R saw only marginal jump of 5.3%, Swift stayed flat.
Top manufacturers remain unchanged with Maruti at the top with cumulative sales of 133768 units, followed by Hyundai which did 42017 units. While home-grown Mahindra did decent 19152 units ahead of Honda which did 15592 units. With the successful Tiago, and Hexa off to a good start, Tata’s found feet again and did 12906, finding place among the top five manufacturers.
