Money is back into the system and passenger car market is going stronger than ever. The market in fact crossed a key milestone of 3 million unit mark this fiscal. Last year growth was registered at 7.24%, this year it was 9.09%. It seems like demonetization and diesel ban had little impact overall.
With the implementation of GST the sales are expected to improved even further are growth rate is expected to be 9-10% this year.
So which cars were among the top sellers last month, we take a look.
Alto retains the top position for the month of March as well and sold 18868 units which were 3.4% less than last month.
Maruti Baleno performed exceptionally well; it was not even among the top five cars last month and saw a jump of 114.5%. Unit sales of Baleno increased from 7658 to 16426 units.
Dzire saw a drop of 4.3% and sales dropped from 16613 to 15894 units. While sales of Swift grew over 25%.
Grand i10 which sold quite well last month saw a drop as well this month and sales dropped by 2.5%. Sales comparison chart on the right would show you how the sales of the different months compare.
Maruti as always was the top manufacturer among all and saw unit sales of 127695. In the second spot there’s Hyundai which sold 44757 units. Mahindra, Honda and Tata followed the pack with 23068, 18950 and 15433 units respectively.
