There is a slew of car choices that you can buy in the market today. Due to the sheer number of options that are available, you are unlikely to do a detailed research of them all or even shortlist them. And therefore, you are likely to miss a great car and strike it from your list inadvertently without considering it fully. So what are the few great options that you should definitely consider, here we have prepared a list of best cars under 15 lakh.

Hyundai Verna

Hyundai Verna should be on the top of our list for the simple reason that it has just been updated. And Hyundai, in our opinion has done quite a nice job with it. However, it’s there on our list because it's a well-rounded package and we haven’t organized the list in any particular manner.

New Verna offers two engine choices 1.6-litre Diesel and 1.6-litre Petrol and you get an automatic option with both of them. The engine options are most powerful in the segment and cars are now more efficient. As you would expect from a Hyundai, you get best-in-class equipment and making the debut this time is the ventilated seats.

Maruti S-Cross

It’s definitely an underdog if you consider the sales. And almost every other Maruti sells more than this one. S-Cross is a great product and unlike other cars from Maruti, the perceived build quality in its case is class-leading.

The 1.6-litre diesel engine develops an impressive 118bhp of power and healthy 320Nm of torque. Not only that, dynamics of the car are much better than the smaller sibling (Brezza), it’s compared with most of the time due to shared (1.3-litre) smaller engine option. S-Cross would be our pick for all the above reasons and the exclusivity which few can match in this segment.

Tata Hexa

You can tell that Tata’s been making great efforts. It made investments over Rs 34000 crore in the year 2015 and Rs 38000 crore in 2016. For this year, Rs 4000 crore has been committed towards new products alone. Not only that, it also shows through with the kind of products it’s launching off-late.

Hexa is one such car. It’s immensely capable and extremely practical if you have a large family. Since it uses a body-on-frame construction, it’s quite robust too. There’s an option of manual and automatic transmission to choose from and two engine choices. Compare it to its main rival, Innova Crysta, and you would realise that you get much better value with the Tata Hexa, and unlike the Toyota Innova Crysta, this can also do some serious offroading.

Honda City

Leading the pack still in the midsize segment is the Honda City. It offers generous space on the inside and has great road presence. The equipment list has only grown and the new infotainment lets you browse the web with built in Wi-Fi.

City also offers powerful engine options and CVT (with paddle shifters) gearbox with the petrol. You get a sunroof, 6 airbags, rain-sensing wipers and other features that make it one of the better cars in the segment.

Ford EcoSport

EcoSport would definitely go in Ford India’s history as their one of the most successful car. It started the compact SUV trend and now every other company wants to be a part of it. It offers class-leading ground clearance which makes it really hard to scrape its belly. Other noteworthy features of the car are impressive build quality, powerful engine options and a music system that is the best we have heard in this segment.

EcoSport despite its height drives like a car and offers great driving dynamics. Another feather in its cap is the safety equipment, which is easily the best. It now comes with DRLs, Navigation system, Cruise control, rain-sensing wipers and many other features that you find in this segment.
