Maruti Swift Dzire is among the best selling compact sedans in the country and one of the best car from Maruti ever. New Dzire, loses the Swift badge but gains a lot in terms of equipment. The car now employs the same ‘Heartect’ platform that it uses in case of Ignis, Baleno etc. It will be launched soon and will replace the old car. So how different is it really?
Both cars now look generation apart even though it’s not the case. The new car gets LED DRLs and projector headlamps, at the rear too, it employs LED elements. The wide gaping grille gets chrome treatment all around. Generous doses of chrome also surround the fog lamps on the bumper, and overall the face appears well sculpted. The rear too now seems better integrated and does not look stubby.
Maruti embraced the fluidic design language with the new Baleno and Dzire is among the latest car to use it. It sure does make the car look more modern than before. It has a pronounced haunch at the rear and a sculpted front under which you are bound to notice the bigger 15 inch alloys. They work well with the overall style and since the body stands closer to the ground, it also makes the car look more sporty.
Engine and Transmission
While engine are transmission options do not change, but you can expect them to perform better on the new car platform as it’s significantly lighter. Petrol is about 85kgs lighter while diesel weighs 105kgs less than the previous generation car. You can expect better mileage figures too as a result.
The diesel uses revised ratios while petrol uses same ratios as the Ignis. Automatic would be available with all variants as an option except the base, LXi and LDi trims.
Better Interior & Equipment
The Dzire is also completely new on the inside and you get a touch screen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay system, a feature which was absent on the previous car.
The screen also doubles up as a display for rear-view camera. Other features include climate control system, rear ac vents and flat-bottom steering with wood inserts and automatic head lamps.
Electrically foldable and adjustable ORVMs, steering mounted controls are also present as they were on the car of previous generation.
Great On Space
The new car has a wheelbase that’s 20mm long and the front overhang has also been reduced. This increases space on the inside for passengers. Not only do you get better legroom in the new car, there’s better luggage space too, you get 376 litres of it.
It may think it's not enough, but it’s ample for everyday usage and offers the car immense practicality. It may not be the best, but is among other competitiors which offer roughly the same space.
Safety For All
It all started with the Baleno and Maruti is not giving up on the trend it started. The new car also offers better safety cover. You would get ABS, EBD two airbags and ISOFIX as standard across all variants, making it one of the best cars in terms of safety.
