The Indian automobile industry went through quite an interesting time in 2015 and it brought down mixed emotions for the manufacturers. While Maruti and Hyundai were on the top of the competition and manufactured some of the best vehicles of 2015, a couple of other manufacturers came in as a surprise. Manufacturers like Renault and Ford gave a shocker to industry by launching customer friendly and value for money cars. So what were the top 5 car launches in 2015, we prepare a list for you!
Probably the most talked about and sold car in 2015, Hyundai Creta swept away almost all the awards last year. There was a raging demand for compact SUVs in India for the past couple of years and almost every product sold in this segment went onto become successful. First Ford Ecosport and then Renault Duster cashed in to the demand but both were becoming obsolete. This is where Creta came in with Santa Fe inspired design and feature loaded cabin. The result is - Creta is selling like hot cakes with lot of waiting for the SUV.
The new Kwid in the block, as it was fondly called, the Kwid reshaped the way entry level hatchbacks were perceived in India. Paying less doesn't necessarily means that you have to compromise on quality and quantity and that's essentially what Kwid offered. At a price range of Rs 2.6 Lac to Rs 3.5 Lac, one gets 300-litre boot space, touchscreen infotainment system and oodles of space inside complimented with SUVish styled looks. A brand like Renault taking on a brand like Maruti was anyways a big story of the year!
Maruti Suzuki doesn't like to be left behind by competition and specially when the rival is Hyundai. Hyundai's Elite i20 proved to be the most successful premium hatchback in India, poking Maruti to launch something in this segment. In came the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno, that not only looked good, but also undercut the Elite i20 by over Rs 50000. And these attributes were enough for buyers to choose the Baleno over Elite i20, with the former surpassing the sales in the month of the launch, and still going strong.
Honda, first came up with the Jazz hatchback when the premium hatchback market in India was not too mature. Add to it the exuberant pricing of the car, it failed miserably in the country. Eventually Honda has to reduce prices by at least Rs 1.5 Lac to sell the remaining units. Honda learnt from the mistake this time and launched the new Jazz with attractive price point. Now the thing with Jazz is - it's the most roomiest hatchback in the market today and comes with the Honda reliability and class leading mileage. These all factors made the new Honda Jazz a big launch in 2015.
The old and first-generation Ford Figo can easily be credited for Ford's success in India. But that was a long time back and Ford is currently struggling with sales in the country. And then Ford decides to launch the all-new Ford Figo based sedan and hatchback in India, essentially the 'Ka' model from Brazil. Not only did Ford priced it very aggressively, it comes with feature rich cabin, good looks and best-in-class safety features. Ford Figo received an industry wide positive response and Ford is in process of regaining its brand status.
