Just like the year 2018 witnessed a slew of launches that included both the mass market as well as premium products, the year 2019 is not so far to start with a bang. This year’s mass products were from some of the best brand names like the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ciaz, Tata Nexon and the 2018 Tata Tigor that received a minor facelift. Even the premium brands like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus, Range Rover, etc., were also a step ahead with their product launches.
The month of January 2019 will see many launches out of which, the most awaited ones are the SUVs Tata Harrier and Nissan Kicks (where these two SUVs will boast of some segment-first features); Maruti Suzuki Wagon R in the mass market category; and the 2019 Toyota Camry and the Mercedes-Benz V-Class in the luxury car category. So let’s find out, what these upcoming cars 2019 have to offer to its consumers.
One of the most awaited launches is the new Tata Harrier SUV that will make an entry in the mid-size SUV category. At the 2018 Auto Expo, Tata Motors also showcased the concept version of the model and stayed true to its concept version, as the Harrier is almost identical to the H5X concept. Exterior-wise, it Tata Harrier features the company’s IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy and is a head turner. Built on the Omega Arc platform, its design is derived from Land Rover D8 that also underpins Land Rover Discovery Sport. This means the car is huge with its size when compared to all its rivals (like Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta) and also translates good interior space.
The Tata Harrier interior has been packed with many upmarket features, like an 8.8-inch touchscreen with Android and Apple CarPlay, ESP, anti-roll stability, terrain drive modes, etc., to name a few. Mechanically, it will be offered with a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine tuned with Kryotec to make 138 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque and will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox only. It will also get three drive modes – Eco, City and to add more fun to ones drive – Sport mode as well. The Tata Harrier price in India is expected to fall between Rs. 16 lakh to 21 lakh.
Earlier, Nissan India confirmed that soon it will start getting its global line-up to the Indian shore and the first model will be the Nissan Kicks. The Indian version of the upcoming Nissan Kicks is bigger when compared to the model in the abroad, as it will be introduced as a compact SUV in the Indian market. The Nissan Kicks India is based on the same M0 platform, which also underpins the Renault Captur. Under the bonnet, the Nissan Kicks feature will include 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options, same as seen on the Renault Duster. The interior welcomes with softtouch material all around. While on the inside, it comes with lots of goodies and some of them as segment-first, like an 8-inch infotainment system with a 360-degree parking camera. It will compete directly with segment best-seller – Hyundai Creta and we can expect the Nissan Kicks price in India to fall between Rs. 10 to 15 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR
Earlier, we reported that Maruti Suzuki WagonR Facelift is expected to make its launch on January 23, 2019. The popular tall-boy by the home-grown car maker will be introduced as a sixth generation model, while Suzuki has already launched the latest version of the model in Japan. But that said, the Indian version would be different with its exterior design compared to the one on sale in Japan. Nonetheless, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR electric is still going through some rigorous tests, which is expected to launch in the year 2020. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR features will include projector headlamps with daytime running lights and on the inside, touchscreen infotainment. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R price is expected to start from Rs. 4 lakh.
2019 Toyota Camry Facelift
The 2019 Toyota Camry has been spied on numerous occasions. Being in its 8th generation, the upcoming Toyota Camry will be based on the TNGA platform. The car still wears the same design aesthetics as the existing version. The new-generation Toyota Camry Facelift 2019 will be offered in both petrol and hybrid forms. The regular version will come with a 2.5-litre engine and 2.5-litre petrol combined with an electric motor for the hybrid variant, where both the types of the engine will come mated to a CVT. You can expect the 2019 Toyota Camry price in India to go over Rs. 35 lakh.
In the luxury category, Mercedes-Benz India will launch the V-Class MPV on January 25th, 2019. The car will make its presence in the Indian luxury car market as an MPV, which means that Mercedes will be the only brand to offer a luxury MPV in India. In the global market, it is available in three different dimensions – 4985 mm, a 5140 mm and 5370 mm, which ride on an extra LWB. Mechanically, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class MPV features will include a 2.0-litre engine that first debuted on the E-Class and is also BSVI compliant. The diesel engine makes 191 bhp of power with 400 Nm of top torque. Expect the Mercedes-Benz V-Class price in India to be around Rs. 72 lakh.
