India's largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki enjoys quite-a-repo among the buyers in the country and sells close to 1 million cars annually, with a market share of 50%. Maruti Suzuki has changed its approach towards the domestic market in the past couple of years and all the new products from the stable of Maruti are feature rich, technologically advanced and looks youthful too.
Maruti Suzuki announced their 2 product strategy wherein they will launch 2-3 all-new products each year. Following the same line, Maruti Suzuki launched the Baleno premium hatchback and Vitara Brezza compact SUV in India and both the products proved to be sleeper hits. While they definitely were some of the best Maruti launches in recent years, better products are yet to come.
We have compiled a list of 5 upcoming launches from Maruti that will take place in 2017. There will be 2 all-new products, 2 facelifts and 1 variant launch to take place this year. Here's top 5 car launches to take place in 2017 from Maruti Suzuki India!
Expected Launch: April 2017
Maruti Suzuki caused a major stir in the market when they announced the NEXA sub-brand, in a hope to rejig their image as a mass manufacturer. NEXA was aimed to give a more premium and exclusive touch to the cars sold through NEXA dealerships, and Maruti launched Baleno and S-Cross under the Nexa brand. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, their most premium and expensive product yet is still selling through the regular dealerships.
Rumors are afloat that Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the facelifted Ciaz through Nexa dealerships and the recent spy shots clearly indicates the same. The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift is expected to get a revised grille, alloy wheels, DRLs, headlamp and tail light cluster, and sunroof. The engine options are expected to remain the same and so does the price range of Rs 8-13 lakh. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will rival the 2017 Honda City and Hyundai Verna.
Expected Launch: May 2017
A major success from Maruti, the Swift Dzire is the most selling compact sedan in the market today. It was expected that Maruti Suzuki will showcase the new Dzire at the 2017 Geneva Motorshow, which they didn't. The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire will be based on the all-new Swift hatchback, which will be launched in India later this year.
The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire will get a new platform, but will retain the same set of engines - the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel units. Both the engines will get a choice of manual and AMT gearboxes, while Maruti can add an SHVS option to the diesel variant. It will rival the new Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Aspire and yet to be launched Tata Tigor. The pricing is expected to remain same from Rs 5 lakh - Rs 9 lakh.
Expected Launch: July 2017
Next in the launch schedule can be the petrol variant of immensely successful Vitara Brezza compact SUV. Spurred on by Vitara Brezza's success, Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the petrol variant of the SUV, which is only available with a diesel engine in the country at a price range of Rs 7.19 - 9.88 Lakhs.
Since India is a big petrol market considering the cheaper ex-showroom prices (petrol version can cost at least Rs 1 lakh lower than the diesel engine), Maruti is mulling to launch the petrol engine powered Brezza which can cost as low as Rs 6 lakhs in India. Maruti can also add an AMT gearbox to the petrol motor, giving a tough competition to Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Creta.
Expected Launch: October 2017
Next up is the first ever NEXA product to launch in India - the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross crossover. As much as Maruti Suzuki products are loved in India, the S-Cross failed to catch the imagination of the buyers, who couldn't perceive it as a premium crossover. The Indian manufacturer hopes to change that perception with the upcoming S-Cross facelift.
Making an official debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the new 2017 Suzuki S-Cross comes with new styling, and a host of new features to back its premium positioning. The biggest differentiating factor is the new chrome grille with vertical slats, beefy front bumper with heavy plastic cladding, and a 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine. Expect the pricing to be a little more aggressive this time around.
Expected Launch: December 2017
Last but not the least is the most popular mid-size hatchback to ever launch in India - the Maruti Suzuki Swift hatch. The next-gen Swift made its debut early this year in Japan with a global debut at the 2017 Geneva Motorshow, and as expected, it took the world by storm. The new-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift will come sporting a myriad of changes both outside and inside.
It has a modified B-Platform now (Suzuki calls it HEARTECT), a flat-bottomed steering wheel along with a touchscreen infotainment system, and a bold and sporty exterior design with a hexagonal big grille upfront. There can be a SHVS engine and an AMT gearbox up for grab in the mechanical front. The pricing is expected to go a bit higher, given the added gizmos. It will rival the Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Brio and Ford Figo once launched.
