Very recently India has become a friendly ground for the green cars and thus, we can expect several car makers to bring in their great green cars our way. Green cars, such as electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles are really the need of the hour in order to curb the growing menace of rising pollution and global warming. While there are some really cool electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid cars already available in the present Indian car market, a whole lot more are expected to launch in the near future owing to the government support. Recently, owing to the various restrictions and ban on the large capacity diesel cars, the demands for the green cars have also gone up in India, which means more companies will be surely interested in the growing Indian market for EVs and hybrids. Here we are going to look at only the electric car models that are expected to launch in India. Check them out:

BMW i3

The BMW i3 electric is a superb electric luxury car that expected to launch in India soon. Expected to be priced at around Rs. 20 lakhs, the BMW i3 electric gets powered by a 25kw electric motor that gets its juice from lithium ion batteries. The car can offer a range of 50 Kilometers on a single charge. The BMW i3 is the first model that is going to be launched under the German luxury giant’s sub-brand ‘BMW I’. Another highly expected launch in the BMW i8 electric car alongside the launch of the BMW i3.

Both the BMW i3 and BMW i8 electric cars would come to India as CBUs. The BMW i3 has a carbon fiber reinforced polymer body shell on an all-aluminum rolling type frame to keep it ultra light, strong and efficient. The i3 offers a top speed of 150kmph and one great performance oriented EV that you can lay your hands on. It reaches 100kmph of speed from a standstill in just 7.9 seconds.

Tata Megapixel

Homegrown Tata Motors is soon expected to launch its Megapixel electric car in the market. This trendy and smart 4-seater hatchback is meant to handle the daily transportation needs on the busy city roads. The Tata Megapixel will be coming with a manual transmission and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs. 7 lakhs in India. This electric hatch will be a part of Tata Motor’s range extended electric vehicle (REEV) global concept.

The Tata Megapixel will be a great stylish and smart EV that would offer good performance without polluting the environment. This EV is equipped with a proficient electric motor that is powered by a lithium ion phosphate battery pack, while there’s also a petrol engine generator to recharge the battery on the go. This city car promises a 100km range on a single charge.

Tata Indica Vista Electric

Another EV from the house of Tata Motors is the Indica Vista Electric that is expected to launch in India at around Rs. 6 lakhs onwards. The Tata Indica Vista is a flagship model and its Electric will come as an emission free option of this popular hatchback. It will get powered by a magnet electric motor that is paired with a 26.5 kwh super polymer lithium ion batteries and is expected to offer great powerful performance.

The electric motor in the Tata Indica Vista Electric will be offering 55 kw of max power at 4,000 rpm and a top torque of 160 Nm at 1750 rpm. The car would be offering a top speed of 151 km per hour, while promising a superb range of 200 km on a single charge of the battery. The battery will require around 8 hours to get fully charged up. This electric hatchback will be offering a seating capacity for 4 adult passengers and can reach the speed of 30kmph from standstill in just 4.5 seconds. The EV will come braced with dual front airbags, good cargo area and stylish interior along with other great features.

Nissan Leaf

The Indian car market is also waiting to get the Nissan Leaf which is a globally popular EV. This stylish luxury electric hatchback model comes with great features and automatic gearbox option. The car is a world acclaimed EV which has many accolades to its credit for its great performance and efficiency.

The Nissan Leaf is a truly great green car befitting its name which gets powered by a compact 48 laminated lithium ion battery pack that is paired to a high performance 80 kW AC synchronous electric motor. The EV’s powertrain has the ability to churn out a max power of 107 hp and 207 lb-ft of top torque, which is amazing for an EV.

The Nissan Leaf offers a range of 75 miles and its battery takes around 16 hours to get recharged fully. The luxury electric hatchback comes braced with safety features including a full package of airbags, traction control, stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system and lots more.

Chevrolet Beat Electric

The Chevrolet Beat Electric is an electric variant of the Chevy Beat, and is also expected to come to India sometime down the line. The Chevrolet Beat Electric will be a compact electric hatchback model that will be highly city friendly. The small electric hatchback’s all electric powertrain is expected to offer a good range for great day to day city travelling as well as good performance.

Chevrolet Volt

The Chevrolet Volt is another electric car from the house of the American car major General Motors that might be getting on the roads of India in the future. The Chevy Volt EV is highly innovative and is capable of generating its own electricity. On a fully charged battery, the Volt can run for up to 40 miles, which is 64.374 kilometers, after which the car keeps on running even if it doesn’t get plugged in for recharge. This is because the Volt utilizes a range extending gas generator which generates energy to keep on going for hundreds of miles on a single tank full of gas.
