There are reasons why manufacturers say that India is perhaps one of the trickiest auto markets in the world. Here the pace at which buying preferences evolve is clearly different from rest of the international market. 2017 gave a beacon of hope to many electric vehicle manufacturers, and soon after the future electric policy news broke out, many new electric vehicle start-ups sprouted out across the corners of the country. On the other hand, some manufacturers have been working on the same for quite some time now, but the real question is when all these concepts will make it to the real life. And will they be as promising as they sound? Or the future dream of all-electric mobility will still remain a dream for a long time. The Auto Expo 2018 concluded on a positive note and saw a number of new electric motorcycles as well as scooters. Many big automakers such as Mahindra and TVS are working out on developing electric vehicles for the masses, and in the article below we list down some of the all-new electric scooters that you may see on the roads very soon.

TVS Creon based electric scooter

The company has a history of showcasing some of the most interesting concepts of all-time. Previously, TVS showcased the Akula 310 concept which took form of the Apache RR 310. This time the company came up with new concepts including the Creon electric scooter and the Zeppelin. The former as seen in the picture above looks striking with its sharp and futuristic design. Visual bits like diamond cut alloys, stylish front apron, sharp tail end design and much more makes it look good. It packs a number of features such as cloud connectivity, three riding modes, regenerative braking, park assist, GPS, geo-fencing, ABS and safety/anti-theft security.

The scooter derives its power from a 12kW electric motor that allows it to accelerate from 0 to 60kmph in not more than 5.1seconds. Also, the scooter is good enough to cover close to 80kilometers on a single charge. When launched, the scooter might be known by a different name which may be more suited to its production version. Expect a price tag close to Rs 1 lakh when it makes it to the final production model.

TVS Jupiter Electric

The Hosur based automaker is also planning on launching an electric version of its highly famous Jupiter scooter. It is India’s second most selling scooter following the Honda Activa and an electric version of the same is perhaps a good idea. As per industry reports, the scooter is expected to launch by late 2018. It may share the same 12kW electric motor as seen on the Creon, which has a total range of 80kms once fully charged. When launched, it will be placed lower in comparison to the Creon based electric scooter. And currently, there is no real competition for the same except Hero Duet E. You can expect a price tag of Rs 80,000 on the same when it gets launched.

Ather S340

The Bangalore based electric bike startup, Ather Energy is working on the S340 for quite some time now. The company made its plans public a few years back, and since then the project is undergoing rigorous research and development.

It derives its power from 2.2kWHr Lithium Ion battery which put out close to 14 Nm of torque. The power is delivered to the rear wheel via a carbon belt drive mechanism. At the front, it features a twin telescopic fork suspension while at the rear it rides on a single monoshock.

The scooter directly competes against the TVS Creon and is expected to be priced under the similar bracket of Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh.

Hero Duet E

Hero showcased the electric scooter, Duet E at the Auto Expo 2016 and as per latest speculations, the Duet E is about to go on sale very soon. It is based on the famous Duet scooter from Hero which comes with a 110cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. The new electric motor will be good enough to churn out close to 5kW of maximum power and 14Nm of peak torque. The scooter will be capable of doing a 0-60kmph run in not more than 6.5 seconds of time. Also, the company has revealed that it will be good to cover a maximum distance of 65km when fully charged. Expect a launch price of Rs 75,000 on this electric offering from Hero Motocorp.

Mahindra Gusto based electric scooter

The company has not yet tasted any success in its two-wheeler segment but it certainly hopes to turn the things in its favor with the introduction of Gusto based electric scooter. Till date, no information has been made public about the new electric offering but it is certain that it will derive some of the basic tech and specs from the US market based Mahindra GenZe electric scooter.

Stay tuned for more auto stuff from the industry.
