The iconic British motorcycle manufacturer, Triumph Motorcycles has been penalised by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States. Due to a manufacturing fault in Street Triple R units, the four bolts holding cable guides to either side of the headstock could  get loosened that might result in a fatal situation on-road.

Soon after getting to know about the situation, Triumph Motorcycle UK ordered recall for the affected units in UK in June 2013 on the other hand recall for the same units in US was ordered in September last year.

Due to this whole delay in the recall of Street Triple R motorcycle in the US market, the company was fined for $2.9 million (Rs 19.2 crore) for violations of Safety Act by the NHTSA. The fine includes a $1.4 million cash penalty and $500,000 for fulfilling the series of requirements to improve its safety practices. The bike costs around INR 7,91000 in India and competes with other bikes of the same category like Kawasaki Z800 and Ducati Monster.
