Upcoming SUVs and MPVs Launching this year

Snapshot: With the soaring market of SUVs, here we have listed the upcoming SUV and MUV that will launch this fiscal year.

This year, maybe the Auto Expo did not come out as expected, but this doesn’t mean that the manufacturers were laid back. Though, Carmakers have not stepped back and surprised Indian car buyers with a slew of products that launched. That is not all, we still have many launches queued for this fiscal year. So, here is a list of the upcoming SUV and MUV that will arrive soon this year. Read on to know about the model that suits your need and style.

Mahindra Rexton (XUV700)

Built on a new body-on-frame chassis, new Mahindra Rexton will be lighter than the model it will replace. Mahindra also showcased the model as the new generation Ssangyong Rexton at 2018 Auto Expo and is also rumoured to be called the XUV700. The new SUV will compete with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and Isuzu MU-X. The model will draw its power from a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that makes 185bhp with 420Nm of top torque and will be available with automatic transmission with an all-wheel drive. Inside, it will come equipped with a large 9.2 inch HD touchscreen, quilted Nappa leather upholstery and more. We can expect the new 7-seater model to be priced around Rs 35 lakh.

Honda CR-V

The new Honda CR-V was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, where the overall design gets some minor changes, but it wears the CR-V styling. What's more interesting about the new CR-V is that it will be available in a 7-seater configuration and will also get a diesel engine offering. The diesel engine would be a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder unit that develops 120bhp and 300Nm, paired with a 9-speed transmission with AWD. It will rival with Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santa Fe and the likes.

New Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

Unveiled at the 2018 Indonesia Motor Show, the new generation Ertiga will make its way into the Indian market in a few months. The new model has been spotted numerous times doing test rounds. Based on the Heartect platform, the new Ertiga longer and slightly wider than the current version, nonetheless, it is stylish too. The car will be offered with the new 1.5-litre engine that makes 103bhp same that also serves the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and for the first time, the car will also get an automatic variant on offer.

Mahindra S201

Mahindra and its Korean subsidiary SsangYong are working on a new sub-4m SUV that will take on the Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Codenamed as S201, the compact SUV will be based on SsangYong Tivoli. We can expect it to be feature loaded like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, seven airbags, auto climate control along with ESP. Under the bonnet, the car would draw its power from either an all-new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol or a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk

Due to the delayed launch, the Jeep Compass Trailhawk is expected to make its way either by the end of 2018 or early 2019. The dealers have also started accepting bookings for the model. The car is manufactured at the FCA’s facility in Ranjangaon for both the Australian and Japanese market. The interesting part comes in its mechanics, for the first time, Jeep would introduce the 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 171bhp of power, with a 9-speed automatic gearbox, instead of a 6-speed manual on the top-end Limited (O) 4x4 variant.

Isuzu MU-X facelift

Isuzu is working on the facelift version of the MU-X which, expected to launch in a couple of months. The model was recently spied doing the test round on the Indian streets. The facelift version will get some cosmetic updates like revised front and rear bumpers, projector headlamps with DRLs and a new set of alloy wheels, while on the inside, the car is likely to come with a redesigned dual-tone dashboard, faux-wood trims, a new touchscreen infotainment system, and more. Mechanically, it is expected to get the same 3.0-litre diesel engine with 175bhp, connected a 5-speed automatic, with either a two- or four-wheel drive setup.

Jeep Wrangler

Jeep unveiled the latest generation of the Wrangler for the international market. The car gets some modern touches, undoubtedly still retains the bits of the original model such as the LED headlamps with the LED signature ring, seven-slot front grille and LED taillamp. The new Jeep Wrangler is claimed to sport even more capable 4X4 and is likely to be offered with the same set of engines as seen on the current models.

Tata Harrier

Tata’s H5X concept that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and a head turner at the show. Christened as Harrier, the all-new SUV is expected to launch in January 2019. Mechanically, it will be powered by a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine that also serves the Jeep Compass, but the Tata’s will produce 139bhp compared to Jeep Compass’ 171bhp. Built on Jaguar Land Rover’s L550 platform that also under Discovery Sport, we can expect to be introduced with an attractive price tag and will also boast of off-road capability. Tata will also introduce a 7-seater configuration, but it will the dealership ground on the later stages. It will pounce with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass, and Renault Captur.

Nissan Kicks

Nissan Kicks looks quite stylish and will be a Creta rival. Under the bonnet, it is expected to come powered by a 1.6-litre petrol with 105bhp and a 1.5-litre diesel engines that makes 109bhp of top power, though these powertrains are also offered on the Renault Duster, Nissan’s Terrano and Renault Captur. The top-end model is expected to feature a 360-degree camera, side curtain airbags, and traction control.
