Why Ciaz is a good car under Rs 10 lakh

Snapshot: With the current festivities at hand, car manufacturers are offering a bucket-load of offers to cash in. Here is a take on the best sedan buy under Rs 10 lakh.

Buying a sedan nowadays has become much more confusing with a plethora of options to pick from. We personally have received the most user queries on advice@autoportal.com regarding the best sedan below Rs 10 lakh. There are loads of options to choose from, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Nissan Sunny. All good options but we’ve observed Maruti Suzuki Ciaz under either petrol or diesel version offers you most for your money. We’ve skimmed through and discovered Ciaz is the most well packaged sedan you can buy in the sub-10lakh category. Maruti Suzuki’s current onslaught has been on the entire customer experience, right from products, to sales and service strategies. Here’s why we think Ciaz is the best to buy currently.

Why Maruti Suzuki Ciaz?

You’re correct, lots of different options to pick from. But look closer and you realise Ciaz is the longest (4,490mm) and widest (1,730mm) sedan in its segment. Buyers have to realise this implies both front and rear passengers get plenty of space to be comfortable inside its cabin. Then are tiny details that we usually miss out, like a driver armrest, projector headlights, 6 speaker audio with Bluetooth audio streaming and the fact that it has the largest 510l boot capacity. In our test review we found out that it is also a very quiet cabin to spend time in. Noise isolation is excellent and dials out all unwanted outside noises for passengers inside. Sure you miss out on a moon-roof, cooled glove box, gear-shift indicator and a reach adjustable steering which might be offered by rest of the competition, but does not match up against all other equipment on offer in the asking price of a Ciaz Delta version.

And then is Maruti Suzuki Ciaz’s pièce de résistance, its DDiS 200 Smart Hybrid Diesel Engine. A claimed 28.09kmpl ARAI figure blows entire competition to smithereens. All this is achievable through a Smart Hybrid system which is unlike a conventional hybrid. A regular hybrid uses two propulsion systems making the entire concept very expensive, but Suzuki engine utilises a bigger battery’s power assist, brake energy regeneration and engine idle start/stop system to increase fuel efficiency. Kudos to Maruti Suzuki engineers for creating a futuristic technology much accessible.

The 1.4l petrol version too is the best performing and most efficient engine, but we find the diesel very alluring. The 5-speed transmission is smooth and because torque is widespread, you don’t need too much shifting while driving around. Another key advantage is Ciaz’s highest ground clearance of170mm, for comparison Hyundai Verna sits at 165mm and VW Vento sits at 163mm, thus enabling it tackle rough patches much easier than its competitors.

Which variant should you buy?

We’ve been running through the options list and you know we prefer the diesel smart hybrid version. But the difference between the base Sigma and higher specced Delta Smart Hybrid is a cause for your concern. Don’t bother with the Sigma, Delta is barely Rs 30K more for significant differences. Simply put, benefits outweigh the price difference. All the added features we are stating here are crucially important for both drivers and if you like being chauffeured around. Firstly is automatic climate control in Delta Smart Hybrid which keeps cabin temperature even automatically on the push of a button, avoid manual air conditioning in Sigma. Also you get Bluetooth telephony and audio streaming, important since it has got a 6-speaker system. Then driver seat gets height adjustment to find your ideal driving position whatever your height, and rear parking sensors aid you not bumping into things while parking. Another key difference is availability of steering mounted controls which adds to safer driving habits. So skip the base and go one up fetching you a well kitted sedan.

Why are we telling you now?

For your benefit actually, considering current tax structure and harnessing year end deals it is lucrative to buy this sedan currently. If a manufacturer prices a model above Rs 10 lakh, it garners more road tax according to the RTO tax slab, which is passed on to the customer. Maruti has priced Ciaz Delta DDiS 200 Smart Hybrid just under Rs 10 lakh to gain that benefit passing it you. The amount of kit they are able to offer is simply an irresistible deal. Also we have to mention Ciaz has made quiet an impact with its plush cabin and premium features list against rivals. Think of it, the biggest sedan in the segment with the most kit and highest fuel efficiency in its class, pegged just under Rs 10 lakh.
