Chevrolet is a subsidiary of the world’s third largest car manufacturer, GM. The manufacturer sold 9.8 million cars globally in 2014 and the brand Chevrolet holds about 37% market share in the US. However, in India, the car manufacturer has so far had trouble finding the similar level of appreciation that it gets back at home. Chevrolet, or popularly known as ‘Chevy’ has received lukewarm response in India despite its rather impressive product portfolio.
Chevrolet is expected to make a comeback in India and will be changing its strategy across the board that would help them gain bigger share of the market. The company that sells about one lac cars annually in India, expects to gain more share by launching new cars as well as by updating the existing ones. So we decided to compile a list of upcoming Chevrolet cars that could be the game changers for the US auto giant.
Chevrolet’s strategy for 2016 and the new cars that are expected.
An all new Cruze made its premiere at the New York auto show in April 2015 and would be present at the Delhi Auto Expo too. The car has gotten bigger, it’s lighter and is indeed a looker. The new design is remarkably different and looks radical and stunning. The interiors are radical too and it’s expected that it would carry new Apple CarPlay system that would offer Android connectivity too aka Android Auto. You would get newer and modern 1.6 litre diesel engine that would replace the old 2 litre one. What’s more, you would get a petrol motor too this time around, it would be 1.4 litre unit and guess what? This would be turbocharged!
The Trailblazer made its inroads in India in October this year, a true blue SUV that came with an impressive price tag albeit with no 4X4 on offer. The company is set to update it already and the car would come with a 4X4 transmission system too for the hardcore SUV fans. The engine on offer would make about 190bhp and is capable of doing 0-100kmph in about 9.5 seconds, making it one of the fastest SUV out there.
Chevrolet Beat 2016
The old Beat still manages to look modern despite the age, and it can be safely said that it has rather aged well and car looks particularly good. The new Beat made its premier at the New York auto show, 2015. Needless to say that the new car looks refreshing and is a huge departure from the earlier generation. The car would be equally interesting on the inside too and may get a system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Other than that, expect new set of engines and safety systems at par with rivals.
The Indian car market has seen a shift in people’s preferences, with new products making their way, majority of buyers have started opting for compact SUVs over sedans, and as a result, they now make one of the major portion of sales numbers in the Indian market. Chevrolet Trax would just be the right fit. Expect it to be powered by a 1.4 litre turbo petrol. The SUV is compact though not sub-four meters, expect that it would come with all the bells and whistles and offer an impressive all around package.
The Chevrolet Spin would be serious competitor to the Toyota Innova in the MPV market. It has already been announced for the Indian and would make its way around November next year. You seldom use the word exciting to describe MPVs, but the Spin is indeed exciting to look at considering that it's an MPV. The car would offer seating capacity of seven and safety features at par with other competitors.
The stint of the beloved US car manufacturer in India is not exactly successful if you compare it with other brands present in the Indian market, but the commitment that it has shown towards India so far and that too despite its low share would have us consider that it would make a huge comeback with a detailed strategy in the year 2016.
