Who doesn't like to own a couple of exotic cars or some age old vintage cars? While many of us only dream for the same, few of us are lucky enough to get hold on a couple of beautiful and rare machines. But, some of us, infact, only a handful of us, hold a garage so large, so much so that an entire town could be moved on their vehicles.
Throughout the history, men have been collecting things as a hobby. Car collection is one of the expensive hobby among others. There have been many notable personalities who came into limelight due to their impressive garage, and some of them we are listing here.
We bring you an exotic list of the top 5 persons, who owns the largest fleet of car and have the largest garage in the world.
5. Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan
Known as the 'Rainbow Sheikh', this billionaire from Abu Dhabi, got this nickname for his renowned colorful collections of 7 Mercedes S-Classes, each one in a different color of the rainbow. He also owns some of the most famous customized Mercedes monster trucks, a large fleet of Jeep for the largest Bedouin Caravan, a Dodge Power Wagon, and what not. Infact, he is famous for getting hands on anything sensational that he can find to match his equally sensational personality. And to top it all, he keeps his unique collection in a Pyramid. That's quite a Sheikhworthy thing, we say!
4. Ralph Lauren
We bet only a handful of people haven't heard the name Ralph Lauren, but what we can't bet on, is whether they know that he is an avid car collector. The fashion designer owns one of the most famous car collection in the garage called D.A.D (David, Andrew, and Dylan, names of his children). This two floor museum like garage was founded by his technician, after the option to store 60 of his cars, underground, failed miserably. Build in an old car dealership Westchester, New York, it is being redesigned by Alfredo Paredes, the company's Vice President.
The beautiful garage rests the car under a bright halogen lamp and white stainless steel counters. The floor is black, the walls are pillars of white to focus attention on the cars. The ceiling is left in its bare industrial state, although still painted white and has a workshop near to display area as well as a small living space including an office and a library.
3. Ken Lingenfelter
Ken Lingenfelter is the son of a famous General Motors executive and founder of a successful real estate settlement company. He also heads the Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, a high performance aftermarket parts company, he purchased from his cousin. But this is not why he is famous and the obvious reason he features on our list, is due to an impressive car garage. Tucked away in large, squeakily clean warehouse in the quiet town of Brighton, Michigan is one of the best rare car collections in the World, owned by Ken.
The collection includes some of the most exotic and expensive cars in the world. But unlike others, he uses the garage to generate charity by graciously allowing the public to come and view his car collection on a fairly regular basis and the proceeds being given as charity. Like the Sultan of Brunei and Jay Leno, Ken Lingenfelter continues to grow his amazing rare car collection each year.
2. Jay Leno
What name comes to your mind when one talks about the car collector? Jay Leno is definitely one of the most sought after name in the automotive industry and definitely among the most famous ones. Apart from his addiction to collect cars, he also hosts TV shows and do stand-up comedy too. Jay Leno boasts of some of the most rare car collection alongwith some of the most powerful and expensive cars. For instance, he has a 1906 Stanley Steamer but also a brand new McLaren MP4-12C super car. One trait that helps Leno stand out of the rest of the collectors is the fact that he is a true car guy that procures cars simply because he loves automobiles as opposed to collecting high-end cars as a status symbol.
His collection is so dynamic that he constantly keeps on adding, trading or modifying cars and motorcycles. He is rumored to have over 100 cars and over 90 motorcycles. Within his massive warehouse garage he even has special equipment for working on cars such as a sheet metal English wheel, welding machines, water jet cutter, plasma cutter, and much more.
1. Sultan of Brunei
While Jay Leno is known to collect cars for his sheer love for the automobiles, here is one gentleman who does it, simply to show his status. And such is the grandeur of his stature that his car collection is estimated to be worth twice Jay Leno’s reported net worth, or $300 million dollars. Why not so? He has a bank balance of $20 billion dollars and boasts of some of the most expensive exotic cars, high-end luxury cars, priceless classic cars, and one of a kind concept cars. His garage's most expensive car, and one of the priciest cars in the world, is a $14 million dollar custom Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Limousine loaded with 24k gold. Speculation for his car collection varies drastically between 3,000 and 6,000 exotic cars.
His collection includes 8 McLaren F1, Ferrari FX, Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR and Bugatti Veyron 16.4. Although there have been some lists giving out details of the cars in the Sultan’s amazing car collection, there is still no entirely accurate and complete accounting of his car inventory.
