Ather 450 Overview
Ather Energy has launched its Ather 450 smart electric scooter in India. It is the most expensive scooter manufactured in India right now. This scooter is available only in Bengaluru for the time being. The company is planning to expand to other parts of the country in few months.
Ather 450 Styling & Comfort
Ather 450 looks quite stylish with its sharply-sculpted body shape. The slim LED tail light is neatly integrated into the turn indicators. Saddle height for the Ather 450 is 765mm and its kerb weight is 118kg. Also, there are 12-inch alloy wheels that add some premium touch.
Ather 450 Performance and Handling
The scooter offers good handling with surefooted body control. It accelerates with a good enough pace and feels a lot quicker than any other electric scooter available currently. The throttle response is crisp and linear, and you can easily cover the gaps in the city with the immediate grunt that it offers. There are two driving modes to choose from – Power and Eco. The Eco mode is useful when you want to use the battery for longer distance. With respect to suspension, the scooter employs telescopic front forks and a symmetrically-mounted progressive mono-shock at the back. It absorbs most of the uneven undulations with ease.
Ather 450 What we think
The Ather 450 comes with 2 year/30,000 kms and 3 years/unlimited kms warranty on the battery, and the warranty also covers manufacturing defects for three years (excluding cable, connector, and physical wear and tear). That should give some peace of mind.
The made-in-India Ather 450 is currently priced at INR 1,24,750. This is inclusive of a subsidy at INR 22,000, GST, road tax, smart card fee, registration card and insurance. At this price point, it is forced into competing with rivals beyond its depth of ability.
Ather 450 Mileage
The Ather 450 promises a 75 km range on a single charge and more than 80 kmph top speed.
Ather 450 Engine & Transmission
The BLDC motor of Arther 450 offers an optimum 20.5 Nm of instant torque and a peak power output of 5.4 kW on cruising at the top speed. It does the 0-40 kmph sprint in merely 3.9 seconds, while clocking a top speed of 80 kmph.
Ather 450 Braking & Safety
The scooter comes with disc brakes, and they are very sharp and have no issues in shedding speeds.
Ather 450 Competitors
In terms of competition, the Ather 450 rivals the likes of Hero Electric Optima Plus, Indus Yo Spark and Okinawa Praise.
