BMW S 1000 XR Overview
BMW S1000XR is a bike that is said to have the spirited performance of a racer, the ride height of an adventure machine and the patience of a tourer. The new S1000XR comes with an advanced rider’s electronics package, making the rider’s life much better and easier. Looking at the 17-inch wheels makes one feel that this bike from BMW is meant more for the streets. Being a BMW, this is not a slow motorcycle at all but more of a perfect excuse for a leader bike of the street.
BMW S 1000 XR Engine & Transmission
The power source to this highly competent motorcycle comes from a 999cc liquid-cooled, in-line engine and gets double overhead camshaft with wet sump lubrication. The bike pops out a commendable 160bhp of power @ 11000rpm and 112nm of torque @ 9250rpm. All this leads to filling the bike with complete power. Even if you miss a gear, the bike has it all covered. It’s the amazing 6-speed gearbox with mechanically-controlled multi-plate and the anti-hopping clutch.
BMW S 1000 XR Mileage
Such a monstrous motor but still manages to keep in mind a good efficiency of 20kmpl and has a fuel tank capacity of 20L. Priced at around Rs. 19.6 Lakh (On-Road Price, New Delhi), the bike is filled with features like automatic Stability Control, with basic traction and wheelie control that work in conjunction with the more basic standard ABS. But if you go for the option box for Ride ModesPro, TC is upgraded to the more sophisticated Dynamic Traction Control, while two additional ride modes are accessible, including Dynamic and Dynamic Pro. The real difference here is the updated sensor box, which detects the bike’s bank angle and applies TC accordingly, while also allowing more aggressive riding with less wheelie and traction intervention depending on the mode selected.
BMW S 1000 XR Performance and Handling
As mentioned earlier, this bike has power all over the place, so if any gear shift goes wrong, the S1000XR has all the power to deal with such a situation. BMW has done their homework properly for the braking performance. This bike is amazing. One gets one or two finger braking on a bike with such power. For the front, you get 320mm dual discs with Brembo and calipers, and for the rear, you have the 265mm single disc. The bike is filled with so much power that the front wheel can come up in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. The S1000XR has more weight, trail, wheelbase and more everything as compared to its other siblings. The chassis on this gives a nice upright riding position, making one so comfortable that she/he could ride for hundreds of miles without any complaints and be giving up on performance. The electronic suspension on the bike is fantastic, making the ride so comfortable and soothing.
