Ducati Monster 796 Overview

Ducati's Monster has always been a bit of a charmer. It is a design that has over the years charmed novices and pros alike and given Ducati enough dough to make motorcycles which were not just ball achingly beautiful but whose electronics could work in rain for more than 15 mins. Eager to offer consumers something between the novice friendly 696 and the mental 1100, Ducati made the 796. It has more power than the base 696 and more trinkets. The suspension and chassis and overall levels of equipment are one notch higher than the base model. The design is very simple and striking, the performance even more so. Ducati has over the years not done anything too radical with the design. Making sure the changes have been more evolutionary than revolutionary. What has been altered over the years are the engines, electronics and performance. The 796 now makes more power than before, but is not at all alarming in its delivery. All this combined with the throat of gods give you an experience that can only be exotic and Italian.

Ducati Monster 796 Engine & Transmission

The engine of this Ducati displaces 800 cc and is arranged in the traditional Ducati L-twin format. The engine isn't a scorcher as usually the liquid cooled giants from Ducati's stable are. But then that is left for the Superbike range, so this bike sits nicely in between, giving fun without giving you a smelly lump in your pants. The engine is stellar in that role.

The bike delivers its power smoothly. The gearbox also makes sure that the wall of chocolate that is torque is spread nicely across the rev range. Over all a neat package that works really well and gives you confidence and kicks in equal measure.

Ducati Monster 796 Mileage

Mileage and exotic Italians don't make for very good bedfellows but what do you know. This Ducati is not that bad on your wallet. The bike will easily give above 20 Kms to a litre, which might not sound kiss worthy but is not gut wrenching either. Which considering this is a Ducati actually means you thank your stars this supermodel hasn't got a temper.

Ducati Monster 796 Performance and Handling

The air-cooled 90 degree v-twin makes around 85 bhp and 78 torques. This couple with the light weight trellis frame makes this a pretty quick motorcycle. It rushes through its rev range and for a v-twin the engine is very rev-happy. The power is controllable at every stage and the throttle is quick to react to your wrists. Then there is another angle to Ducati performance the sound. The booming sound of the L-twin adds another dimension to the performance.

Adding an after-market exhaust will not only liberate a few horses but also a heart pumping sub-woofer. The noise this bike makes is truly ear pleasing. All in all not only is the bike fun and exciting to ride but brilliant to the ear while being at it.
