HeroElectric Photon Overview
Hero electric offers a fleet of electric bikes in the country and the latest one to join the stable is the Photon scooter. Being unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, this e-bike is expected to be the most powerful and agile e-scooter till date. It is being manufactured at company's plant in Ludhiana, Punjab with rate of localization being as high as 50%. Hero has offered the Photon with dual mode drive in form of Economy and Power. An individual can select one out of the two aforementioned drive modes depending upon the convenience and comfort. In power mode, the scooter can attain a top speed of 45kmph which is highest in the segment and can run up to 50 kilometers on one full charge. On the other hand, the 'economy' mode as the name suggests, is immensely efficient and the scooter can cover a distance of 80 kilometers in one go while fully charged. Hero Electric Photon distinguishes from several vehicles of its league as it requires a valid driving license and complete registration formalities. The company, disappointingly, has presented the scooter with a single color Black. Under the hood, it has a VRLA 48V-33AH battery that has a output of 1500 W BLDC. It boasts 10 inch x 3 inch Steel Alloy wheels with impeccable tyres which are highly durable and puncture resistant. The company has provided the scooter a Polycarbonate head lamp to ensure clear and wide night vision. Moreover, its aerodynamic style further enhances the ride quality, takes care of the balance and ensures effortless maneuverability in the congested and narrow city roads. There is also a high torque controller installed in accordance with the electric motor. Hero Electric has priced the Photon electric scooter quite aggressively as it comes at a sticker price of Rs. 41,990 (Ex. Showroom, Delhi). During its showcasing at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, it was hugely expected that it would be launched around Rs. 50000 - 55000. However, the company shocked everyone when it announced the pricing of the scooter during its launch. There are several factors that prove this price tag to be bang on such as the Reinforced high strength steel chassis, Front telescopic suspension that makes sure a smooth ride, front disc brake etc. to mention a few. Additionally, the Anti-theft alarm also turns out to be a gem of a feature as it prevents vehicle thievery. The scooter promises to return a smooth, friction-less and low on maintenance ride as there is no need of oil change or wire tightening due to non-appearance of conventional gearbox and clutches. The cost of ownership as compared to a petrol scooter is quite low and also, the eco-friendly tendency makes it a first choice among consumers.
