Indian Motorcycle Chieftain Elite Overview
Indian Motorcycles has launched a new limited edition variant of the Chieftain range in the Indian market, called Elite. It is the top-spec variant of the Chieftain range that comes with several touring-friendly features. The company plans to make 350 units of this bike for the global market. This classic cruiser has been priced at Rs. 38 Lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
Indian Motorcycle Chieftain Elite Styling & Comfort
There is no denying the fact that the Chieftain Elite is one of the best-looking motorcycles, being huge in size and also having a lot of elegance. The front fascia looks very appealing and it features a round headlamp flanked by fog lights on either side. The headlight offers an excellent range of visibility. A dual-exhaust system with crossover pipes lends aggressiveness to the side profile. The 19-inch front and 16-inch rear alloys wheels of this bike are shod with Dunlop American Elite up front and Dunlop Elite 3 multi-compound rubber at the rear.
This classic cruiser comes with a custom paint job that takes 25 man hours, and most importantly each and every unit looks different. This limited edition bike is offered in a single colour scheme – Black Hills Silver.
Indian Motorcycle Chieftain Elite Performance and Handling
This bike weighs a massive 385 kg, but in spite of that, it is definitely a confidence-inspiring handler. The engine delivers plenty of torque for effortless cruising. Gear shifts are smooth and slick, and the ratios are suited towards both highway and city driving styles. High speed composure is great and the bike has a confidence-inspiring feel of solidity on the highway. The NVH of this engine is well contained and it isn’t noisy when driven sedately, but near the redline, it gets loud and emits a lot of vibes through the handlebar and pegs. The suspension setup includes 119 mm, telescopic fork upfront and 114 mm, single shock with air adjust at the rear. The suspension soaks up bumps, potholes and even the occasional speed breaker with ease.
Indian Motorcycle Chieftain Elite What we think
Considering the price of this bike, it is needless to say that the bike would have extremely limited buyers in a price sensitive market like India.
Indian Motorcycle Chieftain Elite Mileage
For a bike that weighs 385 kg and is powered by a 1.8-litre engine, fuel efficiency isn’t going to be the reason to buy one. Under ideal driving conditions, a mileage of 17-18 kmpl is expected from this classic cruiser.
Indian Motorcycle Chieftain Elite Engine & Transmission
The bike is powered by a powerful 1811 cc, V-twin, thunder stroke engine that produces 161.6 Nm of torque at 3000 rpm and is paired with a 6-speed transmission coupled to a belt drive.
Indian Motorcycle Chieftain Elite Braking & Safety
On the safety front, Indian Chieftain Elite includes cruise control, ABS, security system and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Braking duties are handled by twin, 300 mm discs at the front and a single, 300 mm disc at the rear.
Indian Motorcycle Chieftain Elite Competitors
In terms of competition, the Chieftain Elite will rival the likes of Harley-Davidson Road Glide and Honda Gold Wing Tour.
