JAWA 300 Overview
The Classic Legends Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra has launched Jawa 300 at a price of Rs. 1.64 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The motorcycle carries the original Jawa attributes of handling, agility and elegant design. The delivery of the Jawa 300 will begin in early 2019, but its booking has started for INR 5,000. Customers can book their motorcycle through Jawa’s official website or any of their showrooms.
JAWA 300 Styling & Comfort
The Jawa 300 comes with a retro-modern-exquisite design and it looks identical to the original offering of the 1970s. The motorcycle features rounded headlights, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank (with the ‘Jawa’ badging on either side), integrated single-pod instrument cluster, twin exhaust pipes and a small tail lamp – all these add to the character of the motorcycle. Also, the motorcycle is underpinned by a double cradle chassis.
The wheelbase of Jawa 300 is 1369 mm and it comes with a 14-litre fuel tank. The seat height is 765 mm, making it easily accessible for short riders as well, while the kerb weight of the motorcycle stands at 170 kg. The front end of the motorcycle gets a 90/90/18 tyre while the rear gets a chunky 120/80/17 tyre.
The motorcycle is available with the choice of three colours, including Maroon, Black and Grey.
JAWA 300 Performance and Handling
The motorcycle comes with a liquid-cooled engine, which ensures better engine performance throughout the rev range. The ample torque in the lower and mid-range of the power band makes it an easy motorcycle in the city and on the highway for overtaking. The motorcycle also has an impressive power-to-weight ratio.
The suspension setup comprises telescopic hydraulic fork at the front, while the rear gets gas canister - twin shock hydraulic. The suspensions have also been tuned to offer a good balance between ride quality and handling.
JAWA 300 What we think
The Jawa 300 is an excellent motorcycle for those who want to experience the feel of riding a retro classic yet not wanting to compromise on performance. The overall design and price of the motorcycle represent it as a potential competitor to Royal Enfield Classic 350.
JAWA 300 Mileage
The company hasn’t revealed the fuel efficiency of Jawa 300 yet. The motorcycle is expected to return a fuel efficiency of 30-35 km/l, which is a good figure for a 300 cc commuter.
JAWA 300 Engine & Transmission
Powering the Jawa 300 is a 293 cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine, which churns out a peak power of 27 HP and peak torque of 28 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
JAWA 300 Braking & Safety
In terms of safety features, the new Jawa 300 offers a 280 mm disc brake at the front, supported by single-channel ABS and the rear comes with 153mm drum brakes.
