The transversely mounted V-twin engine has been a Moto Guzzi specific engine configuration. Over the years,all the Moto Guzzis produced have had this distinctive layout making it easy to spot a Guzzi a mile away. The signature throb and the rocking motions the engine makes between your knees are a surefire way to get your heart racing. Powered by a 1398 cc air/oil cooled longitudinal 90 degree V twin, the engine is a work of art. It boasts 4 valves per cylinder with SOHC. The engine itself is tuned for oodles of creamy torque. With a compression ratio of 10.5:1 and bore X stroke dimensions of 104.0 x 81.2mm the electronically fuel injected beast of an engine manages to crank out peak power of 96 HP @ 6,500 rpm and peak torque of 120 mm @ 2,750 rpm.

Mighty impressive numbers these are and when you crank up the bike, the longitudinal crank layout makes the bike pull slightly to the right- classic Moto Guzzi indeed. Mated to the grunty engine is a six speed transmission with a hydraulic clutch that can be a bit overwhelming at low revs but becoming progressively lighter as the revs build up. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a shaft drive as opposed to chain drive.

The twin cradle steel frame has exceptional rigidity and features a kinematic support system with elastic engine mounts that isolate the massive engine form the frame thus keeping vibrations to a minimum. The massive iron lump of an engine however has amazing performance courtesy the throttle-by-wire system which greatly aids acceleration and keeps the engine oozing out oodles of torque. Ride quality is silky smooth thanks to the Sachs suspension units featured on the bike and the 46 mm front forks. For such a heavy bike, it still handles quite well and drops into turns with ease despite the longish 1685 mm wheelbase and kicked out front rake and trail. The braking department is taken care of by the radially mounted twin 320 mm Brembo disc and four pot calliper setup with the rear brakes being handled by a single 282 mm disc with a twin pot setup. The massive 200/60 16 inch rear tyre and front 130/70 18 incher help grip the road and keep things on an even keel.
