The Norton Motorcycle Company earlier called Norton Motors Ltd. is a British based motorcycle manufacturer. It was established in 1898 and largely dealt with manufacturing of fitting and parts for two-wheelers. The company began production of motorcycles around 1902 with brought in engines.
Norton Motorcycles is one of the oldest brands in the history of motorcycles. The company was founded by James Lansdowne Norton, fondly called ‘Pa’ in 1898. It primarily dealt with the production of “fittings” and parts for the two-wheel trade. In 1902, Norton produced its first motorcycle by sourcing engines from French and Swiss companies, while the first Norton engined bike was launched in 1908. Norton Motorcycles reached an annual sale of 4000 units by the mid-1930s. The twin-cylinder Dominator was introduced in 1949 and the Featherbed frame was introduced in 1950. It moved to Donnington Park in 2008 and the first Commando 961SE was delivered in 2010.
The company currently offers Norton Command 961 in India at a hefty price tag. The bike is offered in Sport and Café Racer versions internationally, though in India it is currently available in the Sports version.
