Vespa is a famous scooter brand of a reputed Italian company Piaggio. In 1946, the Vespa started growing from single scooter model produced by the Italian auto giant Piaggio to a complete scooter line. Vespa cannot only be seen as a scooter, but it acts like a true Italian style icon. It showcases the prestige and elegance of Italy. It has produced around 16 million Vespa model units and is quite famous throughout the world. Maintaining its existence for more than fifty years, this company attracted a number of people and offered an irreplaceable picture of the style of Italy through quality transportation means. Vespa is still cherished under the prestigious Piaggio Group.

Vespa In India

In 1960, the Italian company Piaggio initially licensed Bajaj auto to manufacture Vespa scooters. However, in 1971, this license was not extended due to the privatization program of Indira Gandhi. Therefore, the partnership lasted soon, but Bajaj auto kept on producing scooters as per the design of Vespa named the Chetak. After Bajaj, LML Motors became another partner of Vespa. This partnership started in 1983, after which LML started manufacturing the scooters of P series in India. In 1999, LML purchased whole stake of Piaggio from the company and then, this partnership ended. LML kept on producing P Series scooters namely Stella for US market and so on.

Re-Entry Of Vespa To India

In auto expo 2012 which was held at New Delhi, Vespa made its re-entry to Indian two wheeler market. At this event, Piaggio showcased its ultimate scooter range. This is the first ever project of Piaggio in which they have not included any local partner. After unveiling several models, Vespa has managed to make a place in Indian market. As of now, Vespa LXI125 is in a great demand in India. This model features 60kmpl mileage and has 124cc engine power. The kerb weight of this Vespa model is 114 kg.
