Both diesel and petrol avtars of Audi A3 or any other car have their own pros and cons. Choosing between a petrol mill or a diesel mill totally depends on you. There are various factors which can influence decision making under such condition. Please also keep in mind that diesel cars incur low running cost whereas petrol cars are low on maintainence. Diesel engines have to more combustion pressure hence the handle more pressure than a regular petrol engine, so because of this reason disel engines need regular checkups and changing of fluids. In as nutshell diesel is high on maintainence and low on running cost and vice-versa oh this is true for petrol one.
Both petrol and diesel models of Audi A3 are very efficient. Though, while comparing you will find that its petrol model is more powerful than diesel models. Its petrol model has 1.8 Liter, 1798cc petrol engine which deliver 180bhp of maximum power with 250Nm of maximum torque. On the other hand, its diesel model is equipped with 2.0 Liter 1968cc diesel engine which delivers 143bhp of maximum power with 320 Nm of maximum torque.
I partly agree with above answer. Actually, most of the buyers opt for diesel as it a cheaper fuel. However, if your daily running requirements are not much, you can not have a trade off between the initial higher price which you paid for the diesel variant and the fuel bills. Diesel variants do give higher fuel efficiency but on city roads it does not have much difference from the petrol engines. Though, you can have good figures on highways. So, it all depends on your daily running.
The Audi A3 has two engine options, a 1798cc petrol engine which gives a mileage of 16.6kmpl and churns out 178bhp and 250Nm torque whereas the diesel version has a 1968cc engine which produces 143bhp power and 320Nm of torque while running 20.63kmpl. Both of these are mated with an automatic transmission. the better one among these would be petrol for the better performance but affordability wise, diesel should be preffered as it has good economy and does not lacks the punch.
