Audi Q7 Overview

Audi’s most celebrated model, ‘Q7’ has eventually shed its old skin to get into new attire. Embodying numerous overhauls, the premium SUV looks fresh, leaner and newer. The emphasis on newer clearly hints at the dissimilarity between current model and its predecessor. With almost all areas being revised, Audi has not left any parameter untouched. One of the most prominent changes made to the SUV is the trimmed dimensions that said, the length, width and height have been sliced considerably. Use of new components and a much lighter chassis courtesy MLB 2 platform has skimmed a substantial amount of weight from the new Q7.
Audi Q7 Overview
Styling changes on the exteriors blend with the leaner body. Most of the revamp job is done on front profile, with apt styling make over bestowed on side and rear. Tweaks made are extended to interiors too, implying Audi’s intent to endow Q7’s cabin with the best of what it can offer. Addition of new elements in the cabin lend an all new look, a couple of new features and an all new cockpit along with much spacious third row makes do for the chopped dimensions. Engine set up remains intact but there is a change in the state of power produced. The 3.0 litre, V6 diesel powerplant, eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system continue fulfilling mechanical duties. The boost in power output on the other hand works in favour of Q7, pumping up performance. The new edition is not just a smarter version but it is tuned to offer better off-road driving experience.

Audi Q7 Exterior

As mentioned above, Audi has trimmed dimensions of the new Q7 making it appear smaller than the outgoing model. There has been subtle decrease in the length, width and height of the SUV shortened by 37 mm, slimmed by 15 mm and lower by 3 mm. To render it a thinner stance, Audi has used amalgam of materials to cut down on the weight, also based on the all new MLB 2 platform, the chassis weighs 100 kgs lighter; hence the overall weight of the SUV has been slashed by 300 kg as compared to the previous model. Styling tweaks are well in line with the slim semblance of new Q7 with majority of the revisions visible in front. New additions made include reworked radiator grille featuring single-frame, Matrix LED infused head lamps up front. The single frame front grille however gets multiple chrome slats garnished by Audi’s four rings at the top.
Audi Q7 Exterior
Head lamps are sleek and go well with the slim look. Lower bumper is heavily designed, the large fog lamp housings with a touch of chrome around add to the much needed masculine flair. Bonnet is flat, giving prominence to the front apron. Side profile skews attention highlighted by the sharp creases and minimal gap between wheel arches and tyres. The robust looking multiple spoke alloy rims is one of the other notable elements seen on sides. Chrome around the window frame is not over the top, it has been used aptly. Even the roof rails atop lack functionality, instead it grants sporty flair.Audi Q7 Exterior

Audi Q7 Interior

Step inside to get besotted by the elite feel it spells, the low placed dashboard features faux AC vents running across its width. Quality of material used inside is top notch. Audi has infused a set of comfort goodies inside like Audi's MMI touch control unit with a large 8.3-inch touchpad with handwriting recognition, Audi connect, Audi tablet for rear seat passengers, two sound systems with 3D audio, a separate two-zone climate control for rear passnegers and Smartphone integration with Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Audi Q7 Interior
The all digital instrument cluster is available for the assistance of the driver providing all necessary information. Space on offer is sufficient in the first and second row, while the third row is surprisingly roomy unlike usual seven seater SUVs. Dual tone colour theme envelops the cabin and use of premium leather on seats, steering wheel etc looks plush. The centre console does not feature too many buttons which makes it appear simpler balancing the AC vents stretched across the dash. Visibility is good from inside,

Audi Q7 Engine & Transmission

Power generation is done by the same 3.0 litre, V6 diesel engine which served the previous model, however what has changed is the power output engendered by the diesel motor. Tweaks made to the engine result in a fair bump of 27 Bhp in power propagation from previous 241 Bhp to current 268 Bhp. There is a notable rise in torque figure by 5kgm from 56 kgm to 61 kgm. An eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission is synced to the diesel engine and drive is to transmitted to all four wheels through Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.

Audi Q7 Mileage

Powered by the diesel mill, new Q7 does not promise a good run on the road, quite evidently the running cost isn’t economical, although company claims pretty decent numbers in terms of efficiency but the actual run is little less than that. But before you make up your mind, Audi Q7 isn’t just a pretty face that lags behind on the performance ground.
Audi Q7 Mileage
Mileage is something that can be ignored when we are talking of a premium SUV on the lines of Q7.

Audi Q7 Braking and Safety

Awarded with the five-star rating by Euro NCAP, Audi Q7’s new edition is extremely safe well equipped with advanced safety fitments such as hill descent control, hill-start assist and multiple airbags.

Audi Q7 Performance and Handling

On the performance front, the SUV scores higher than the predecessor because of the slight surge in power and torque output. One of the other vital reasons for improved performance is the reduced body weight. Talking in terms of numbers, the acceleration is good, considering the meagre amount of time taken to reach 100 kmph from nil (6.3 seconds). The claims an electronically controlled top speed of 250 kmph which is again impressive. There are various driving modes on offer including dynamic, comfort and S modes. Gearbox is smooth and responsive. The steering wheel adapts to the selected driving style. Moreover, the suspension when set to ‘(Off-road), also resets the ride height considerably. However, the ride quality of the previous version seemed to be superior, hence this can be pin pointed as a loop hole in the performance of new Q7.

What do we think about Audi Q7?

A drastic change in the outer stance of the SUV may not be something that ardent Q7 enthusiasts like, but as they change is the only constant, hence the SUV had to transform one day or the other. Interior styling is exquisite and surprisingly space on offer is comfortable too even in the third row. Packed with an array of state-of-the-art features, Q7 ensures that it is not just a good looking car but it has a high level of functionality. The revamped 3.0 litre V6 diesel powerplant, 8-speed auto box and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system together deliver top notch performance. Pricing may be a little high, but contemplating the comfort it proffers, it is totally worth it.
