BMW X3 OverviewWhat has a powerful engine, great aerodynamics and farsighted safety measures? And yes, great looks thrown in for good measure? It is the improved BMW X3. BMW launched the X3 in India, at a starting price of Rs. 44.9 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi for the Expedition model and Rs. 49.9 for the xLine.
BMW X3 ExteriorThe BMW X3 has the classic looks of its predecessor, with a few alterations including the bumper, alloy wheel updates and more body colour options. The exterior has been revised to give it a sportier look and a better aerodynamics, which is evident from the new bumper’s air inlets that give the front a commanding presence. The rear complements the bold front with a more rounded and stable look. Ultra-modern plastics, lightweight materials such as aluminium for the front of the car and the chassis, high-strength steel in the body and special magnesium alloys for the engine and drive system.
BMW X3 InteriorWhile most of the interiors are the same as the earlier X3, the new Bimmer comes with plenty of cabin space along with a flexibility between passenger capacity and luggage room. The seating position too, is elevated for a better viewing experience. The HVAC display is completely new as well. It is however, the chrome trims and highlighted accents that emphasise the modernity and quality of the interior.
BMW X3 Engine & TransmissionOne of the biggest strengths of the X3 is its revised engine. The twin-power 2.0 litreTurbo diesel engine improves torque development and increases performance, while substantially reducing fuel consumption and emission values. The new engine produces 190bhp, considerably more than the 177bhp of the previous generation. The driver now gets the same driving program selection like the other BMWs, so he can choose between ECO PRO, Comfort and Sport modes. The additional features include Brake Energy Regeneration and an Auto Start-Stop mode.
BMW X3 MileageThe 2.0 litre diesel engine enables a maximum mileage of about 18 kmpl, which is 2 kmpl more than its predecessor.
BMW X3 Braking and SafetyAs is the case with most German manufacturers, safety is a prerogative with BMW too. This is evident from the crumple zones, energy-absorbing bumpers and restraint systems. The X3 has upto 8 airbags for maximum safety. All technologies like anti-lock braking (ABS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), advance Electronic Stability Programmes (ESP) are standard features in the car. It’s no wonder then that BMWs are considered some of the safest cars on Indian roads today.
BMW X3 Performance and HandlingThe new Bimmer certainly delivers in terms of performance. This is evident from the fact that it can accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 8.2 seconds! With Dynamic Damping Control, the BMW X3 adapts to meet your every wish: with the press of a button, you can activate any one of a range of settings and change the driving characteristics of your BMW X3. Dynamic Damping Control uses data collected by sensors throughout the BMX X3: each second, it gathers thousands of readings about the position of the steering wheel, the strength of lateral forces, wheel rotation speeds and much more. The system calculates the best possible setting for each individual wheel and continually adjusts its suspension accordingly.
What do we think about BMW X3?With its highly intelligent and sophisticated features, the X3 is certainly likely to feature among the top in the SUV segment. It marries the demands of the city driver by providing fuel efficiency and energy management with the desires of a terrain driver by providing high torque capacity, coasting mode for seamless highway driving boosted by a lightweight and aerodynamically sound body. The various driving modes prove the driver compatibility and versatility of the car.
The car makes for an excellent family carrier as well with its spacious interiors, storage space, elevated seating, panoramic sunroof among others.
All in all, the X3 is a car for anyone and everyone!
