Chevrolet Trax Overview

In the hotly contested compact crossover segment in India, the U.S-based automaker is prepping its own entrant in the form of the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Trax SUV. The Trax SUV was first seen at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and went on sale in Europe in 2013. As per auto industry trend, the model should have already been on sale in India by now. But the U.S automaker delayed the launch of the Trax SUV in the country for several reasons. One, being the issue with the ‘Trax’ moniker - the rights to which, are owned by Force Motors. Remember Force Trax MPV? So, Chevrolet will probably re-badge its Trax into something else for its launch in India. Also in 2012-13, the U.S-based automaker had its hands full with the launch of Chevrolet Sail U-VA hatch, Sail sedan, Beat Facelift and the Enjoy MPV. So, the Trax SUV was further pushed down the priority list. But now that the automaker has cleared its long list of errands, they will probably get on with the plan to introduce the new compact crossover in India, which is slated to arrive by the end of early 2015.

Chevrolet Trax Exterior

Visually, the Chevrolet Trax will borrow a number of design elements from the larger Chevrolet Captiva SUV and will feature Chevy’s trademark split grille with the large bow logo at the front. Enhancing the muscular look of the Trax crossover, will be the chunky headlamps and the large flared wheel arches. It measures 4,200mm in length, which is more than the Ford EcoSport and slightly less than the Renault Duster SUV. The interior design elements will most likely be taken from the highly successful Cruze sedan.

Chevrolet Trax Engine & Transmission

Under the hood, expect to see a 1.4-litre turbocharged and a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engines powering the petrol variants. The diesel variants on the other hand, will be powered by the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet unit. The compact SUV will be offered in India in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options.

Chevrolet Trax Competitors

Once launched in the country, this new compact SUV will rival the likes of Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano in the Indian market.
