About Citroen

Citroen is a part of the PSA Peugeot Citroen Group since 1976. The company was founded by Andre-Gustave Citroen, a French industrialist, in 1919. With a short time, Citroen became known for its innovative technology, thanks to Traction Avant. This Citroen car was the first front wheel drive car in the world that was mass produced. It also had the distinction of the being the first to have a unitary body type and no chassis to support the mechanical components.

In 1954, Citroen produced the hydropneumatic self-leveling suspension system, the first ever in the world, and then in 1955, the French automobile company launched the DS, the first car model with disc brakes. Citroen also introduced swiveling headlights in 1967 to improve visibility while driving on winding roads. These innovations have seen Citroen win numerous international and national awards. In fact, Citroen has won the European Car of the Year award three times.

However, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Citroen started facing cash flow problems and ownership issues. This prompted Citroen to join forces with Peugeot. In 1974, Peugeot acquired 38.2% stake in the company and two years later, in 1976, it became a majority stakeholder. This led to the formation of the PSA Peugeot Citroen Group.

Citroen cars are not found in the Indian market. However, with a vibrant automobile market, Citroen will finally be entering the market. The conventional style and design of Citroen cars along with their outstanding quality will help Citroen become a popular brand in the Indian automobile market.

The parent company, PSA, Peugeot Citroen Group, has already announced that the new Citroen cars in India will conform to the new industry standards that will come into effect later in 2019. However, the company is still closed lipped about the Citroen cars India launch, though a test car of the Citroen C5 Aircross was seen. It is quite possible that this Citroen SUV car will be one of the first ones from this brand to hit the market.
