About Datsun

Quick overview about Datsun GO

The Japanese car manufacturer, Nissan brought in the Datsun Go hatchback in March 2014 in India. 'Datsun' is basically Nissan's low cost car brand that is targeting the mass segments

One glance at the Datsun Go and you will know that its a fairly large hatchback. However, for the price it commands, the hatchback looks quite snazzy

Just like the exteriors, the interiors of the Datsun Go continues to impress. The quality of plastics and the fit and finish is top-notch, which is a rarity in this particular entry-level segment

Engine & Transmission:

Powering the Datsun Go is the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine from the Nissan Micra. The state of tune however, is different

The Datsun Go’s 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine that comes from the Nissan Micra, has been heavily tuned for better fuel efficiency. The Go’s engine that is rated at 68PS and 104Nm claims a fuel economy of 20.63 kmpl (ARAI tested), which is exactly similar to the Hyundai i10’s claim

Braking and Safety:

The downside for the Datsun GO is lack of enough safety features. Unlike the Alto 800, the GO doesn’t get airbags on any of its variants

Performance and Handling:

The Datsun GO features a speed-sensitive electronic power steering system, which is well weighed. It isn’t as light as a Hyundai, but is convenient for both – city as well as highway duties

What do we think about:

In mid-2012, Nissan resurrected the Datsun brand after nearly being dead for 30 years. The Datsun Go hatchback then, carries the onus of being Datsun’s comeback vehicle with a new purpose - to cater to the needs of the first time vehicle buyer

Slotted in the entry-level segment, the Dasun Go will go head to head with the market leader, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and the highly feature-rich Hyundai Eon. The Datsun GO is the most modern looking of the three cars simply because it is the newest of the three
