Despite the fact that certain of these be pretty radical such as like the model Modulo, and that had never planned for production, others for example Mythos that have revealed elements of styling which were incorporated later into the models which were on the line for production.

A number of Ferrari’s special versions road cars have likewise been manufactured, some of them have been made to order by healthy owners. Ferrari P4/5 is one such example.

Named the ‘HY-KERS Concept Car”, hybrid system of Ferrari adds more than maximum power of 100 HP on top of the 612 HP of 599 Fiorano.

Naming conventions

Till the 1980s early, 3 numbered naming scheme was followed by Ferrari based on the displacement of engine.

V8 and V6 models practiced the total displacement in terms of decilitres for the 2 digits and cylinders numbers as the 3rd. As a result, the model 206 was a V6 cylinder 2.0 litres powered vehicle, despite the fact that the 348 practised a V8 cylinder 3.4 litres capacity engine, even though for the model F355, such that the last number mentions five valves per each cylinder. Upon the 360 Modena’s production, the numbers for models of V8 denotes only to the total displacement of engine. The indication aspect of numerical of this name passed on to the model F430, on the other hand the replacement of F430, the model 458 Italia employs the similar naming style as what the 348 and the 206 used.

The models of V12 used the displacement in terms of cubic centimetres of 1 cylinder. For that reason, the famed model 365 Daytona came with a displacement of 4390 cc V12 cylinder. On the other hand, some newer Ferraris V12 engine, such as the one 599, have 3 number designations that denotes only to total displacement of engine.

Models of Flat 12 i.e. called also as Boxer used the engine displacement in litres. For that reason, the model BB 512 was a 5 litre flat 12. On the other hand, the unique Berlinetta Boxer was the GT4 BB 365, which was named in a similar fashion to the models of V12.

Halo Car F shadowed by the anniversary in terans of years, such as the F50 and F40. This rule was skipped by Enzo, even though the name F60 was applied to a car of Ferrari formula one and it is attached sometimes to the Enzo, in the about to come LaFerrari it will return.

Some models, such as the 1984 Testarossa and the 1980 Mondial did not follow a naming scheme of 3 number.

Referring to their style of body, most models of Ferrari were also provided with designation. In over-all, the subsequent conventions were used:

M i.e. “Modificata”, which is placed at the end of a number of model, specifies the version of modification of its antecedent and not an evolution by complete.

GTB i.e. “Gran Turismo Berlinetta” variants are closed Coupes, or Berlinettas.

GTS i.e. “Gran Turismo Spyder” in models of older version, are open Spyders, spelt as “Y”, or as Convertibles; on the other hand, in recent more models, this suffix is used in the models for targa top, F355 GTS and in GTS; the omission being the 348 TS that is the only model of targa named distinctly. The models of convertible now use the suffix ‘Spider’ spelt as “I”.

GTO i.e. “Gran Turismo Omologata”, placed at the number end of model, specifies a version of modified of its predecessor. Without a doubt, those 3 letters entitle a model that has been improved by designing for racetrack purpose while being still a model of street legal. To bear those 3 letters only 3 models have that strength such as 1962’s 250 Gran Turismo Omologata, 1984’s 288 Gran Turismo Omologata, and the 2010’s 599 Gran Turismo Omologata.

Technical partnerships

With shell Oil Ferrari maintains a long standing relationship. It is a partnership in technical with Ducati and Ferrari for testing as well as for supplying oils and fuel to the Formula 1, world superbike racing and teams of Moto GP. For example, the premium gasoline fuel of Shell V-Power which has been developed along with the technical expertise between Ferrari and Shell for many years.

For supplying engines to Formula One, Ferrari have had many agreements over the years for other teams, and presently supplying engines for Sauber Formula one team and Scuderia Toro Rosso Formula one Team.

In the meantime from the 1920s, Italian race cars of Maserati, Alfa Romeo, and later Abrath and Ferrari were all painted in “race red” colour. This was the usual national racing colour of the Italy, as suggested between the “World Wars” by the organizations later that would become FIA. It specifies to the competing team of nation, not that of the manufacturer of car or driver. In this scheme, the cars of French as Bugatti were painted in blue colour, Mercedes and Benz cars of Germans were in white since 1934, which also unadorned sheet metal silver, and green colour for cars of British such as the 1960s mid BRM and Lotus, for instance.

Ferrari continuously won the world championship in the year 1964 with John Surtees by participating in the last 2 races held in North America with white and blue painted cars, which are race colours of USA, as these were never before entered by the factory of Italians themselves, but by the NART, which is USA based team.

Corporate Affairs

Enzo Ferrari was approached in the year 1963 by the motor company of Ford about a possible acquisition over. Ford audited assets of Ferrari but legal talks and negotiations were cut off unilaterally by Ferrari when Enzo Ferrari got to realize that the Ford’s deal offer would not allow him to stopover at the company racing program’s helm. Consequently Henry Ford II directed his division of racing to negotiate with Cooper, Lola, and Lotus to build a capable car of defeating Ferrari on the world fortitude circuit, eventually causing in the Ford GT40’s production in the year 1964.

As the deal of Ford fell through, Ferrari was approached again by a proposal from FIAT which came with a more flexible purchased controlling interests in the year 1969. A 10 % share was retained by Enzo Ferrari, which is presently owned by Piero Lardi Ferrari who is a son of him. A line of internally managed merchandising of Ferrari that holds licenses of various products bearing the brand Ferrari, including pens, eye wear, pencils, perfume, electronic goods, clothing, cologne, perfume, watches, high tech bicycles, laptop computers and even cell phones. A museum is also run by Ferrari, called the Galleria Ferrari, which is located in Maranello that displays race and road cars, and other products and items from the history of company.
