Fiat Punto EVO Pure 1.2L Fire Dynamic Description
Hatchbacks are the most popular segment in India and for a long time, only a couple of brands were readily accepted in this high volume space. Indian consumers have evolved over time and now look not only at value-for-money prospects but also cars that are feature rich and add to the style quotient. To keep it looking fresh, Fiat has launched the facelifted version of Evo in India, which comes with some cosmetic changes inside out. The car is being targeted at upwardly mobile and younger buyers, or those who may be choosing their first vehicle or upgrading from an entry-level hatch.
Fiat Punto EVO Pure 1.2L Fire Dynamic ExteriorFiat Punto Pure is an insightfully-designed car and it looks more attractive than the standard Punto. There are many appealing bits, such as a tiny front grille and swept-back headlamps, along with a smart bonnet bulge. The distinct shoulder line runs along the sides and flared wheel arches add hugely to the styling quotient. The rear gets a neatly-designed tailgate, beefy bumper and vertically-stacked tail-lights.
Fiat Punto EVO Pure 1.2L Fire Dynamic InteriorThe Fiat Punto has always been regarded as a smartly-styled vehicle owing to its stylish interiors and unquestionable build quality. Even on the bumpiest roads, there are no squeaks or rattles. The doors close with a well-meant thud. The dual-tone dashboard layout looks neatly done. The steering wheel is nice and chunky to hold. Seat comfort is excellent with the right amount of cushioning. You have more than enough legroom at the front and back, and a good amount of headroom too. Three abreast adults can be too much of a squeeze but manageable for very short runs. The AC chills the cabin very quickly, and is a boon during hot and sunny days. There is also a very generous boot with 280 litre of space and the rear seat folds down to provide more, if required.
In terms of comfort and convenience features, the Punto Evo Pure has air conditioning, height adjustment for the steering wheel, follow-me headlamps, remote keyless entry, electrically-adjustable ORVMs, etc., and for entertainment, it gets an integrated CD/MP3 & FM player with USB and AUX connectivity. The instrument cluster houses a nice resolution display that shows a variety of information, such as trip meter, average fuel consumption, average speed, distance to empty, low fuel level warning, door ajar warning, gear indicator, shift indicator, tachometer, etc.
Fiat Punto EVO Pure 1.2L Fire Dynamic Engine & TransmissionThe Punto Evo Pure is powered by a 1.2-litre FIRE engine, which discharges peak power of 67 bhp at 6000 rpm and 96 Nm torque at 2500 rpm. Mated to this engine is a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox.
Fiat Punto EVO Pure 1.2L Fire Dynamic MileageWhile the official fuel efficiency figure is claimed to be around 15.8 km/l, this 1.2 petrol engine should return 14-15 km/l in real world conditions.
Fiat Punto EVO Pure 1.2L Fire Dynamic Braking and SafetyVentilated discs at the front with drums at the rear ensure confidence-inspiring braking. Sadly, there are no premium safety features in this car, like ABS or airbags. Other safety and security features available in the Punto Evo Pure are seat belts with pretensioners, engine immobilizer, child safety lock, central locking and speed-sensing door lock.
Fiat Punto EVO Pure 1.2L Fire Dynamic Performance and HandlingFiat has always found a good balance of ride and handling for its cars, and the Punto Evo Pure is no different. The 1.2-litre engine feels quite peppy to drive in city conditions offering quick response down the revv band and linear acceleration post the mid-range. The gearbox feels a tad notchy but it should settle in with use. The power steering feels quite light at low speeds and moving around the city in rush hour traffic is quite easy. The low end is a bit sluggish but the mid range feels strong and there is a lot of action near the redline.
The company has worked on the suspension set-up as well to make the car suppler and plaint for Indian roads. Tyres offer a good level of grip and composure. The car comes with a high ground clearance of 185 mm, which is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions.
Fiat Punto EVO Pure 1.2L Fire Dynamic VerdictThe car offers a good balance of performance and efficiency, ride and handling, and solid build quality something, which is bound to go down well with prospective buyers. In terms of competition, the car will compete against the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Swift and Volkswagen Polo.
