Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Overview

There are BMWs, Audis, Ferraris and Bugattis in the world but the place Ford has is definitely one of a kind. Call it the Model T effect or the fact that they initiated the now ubiquitous assembly line manufacturing, Ford is on the fore front of modern consumer automobile manufacturing and the customers always have a special place for their cars in their mind.
Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Overview
So when such a company comes up with a car that is christened as an affordably Sedan, the world is all ears. And when such a car is being offered in one of the most booming automobile markets of the world, it is definitely a head turner. The car in discussion is the Ford Classic. Earlier named as Ford Fiesta Classic, it is eventually changed as Ford Classic as a standalone product. This car is offered with six variants both petrol and diesel fuel options. Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Overview
The petrol variants are offered with a four cylinder in line 16 valve DOHC engine while the diesel variants are offered with a four cylinder in line 8 valve SOHC engine. Touted to be offered with a first in class Bluetooth system, the car is reasonably priced and is expected to be a game changer in the Indian automobile industry.

Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Exterior

Ford Classic offers a simple exterior posture without much to do in terms of features or aerodynamic agility. The vehicle is an economical sedan that packs quite a few features that help the vehicle get along on Indian roads with ease and the company kept it to that.
Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Exterior
The front fascia features the front grill that has a honey comb design and the Ford logo decorates in gently on it. The bumper however features air vents over which the nameplate is positioned with fog lamps on either end. The car comes with crystal barrel headlamps, radiator grille surround, driver and passenger mirrors and stylish turn indicator on the outside rear view mirror. All the variants come with 14 inch steel wheels. Other than the base end LXi of both petrol and diesel section, other variants come with tailgate handle in a same shade as that as the car body002EFord Classic (2012 - 2015) Exterior

Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Interior

Interiors of Ford Classic are grand and elegant in eveyr right. They feature a 2 litre bottle older in front door panel for all variables, two tone colour co-ordinated interiors with all the variants coming in Ebony & Jasper blue while the top end Titanium variants offered in Ebony & Camel dual tone. The low end LXi variants get neither an MP3 player not the coveted Bluetooth phone interface. The CLXi variants of petrol and diesel come with MP3 player with radio and AUX In facility. The audio streaming, call logs, call controls such as swapping, hold, mute and phone features such as SMS notification, full phonebook access and privacy mode are all restricted to the titanium variant. The interiors also feature air conditioning with heater facility on all the variants. The drive away lock and electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs) are provided only to the titanium variants. Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Interior
Facilities such as power steering with tilt adjustable steering, front and rear power windows and electric boot release are some of the basic comfort features given to the base LXi models with intelligent rear defogger, rear centre armrest and height adjustable rear head rests offered for the mid range CLXi models. The interior spacing is comfortable with ample leg room which is evident from the 4282 mm length of the vehicle. The 1468 mm height also gives a hint at the generous head room provided with the vehicle. With a boot space of 430 litres and a fuel tank capacity of 45 litres, the vehicle is a true winner when it comes to the interior comforts.

Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Engine & Transmission

Ford Classic comes with two engine options across six variants. The 1.6 litre Duratec Petrol engine and the 1.4 litre Duratorq Diesel engine. Both the engines are aluminium alloy built and the fuel system in the petrol variant is SEFI while that on the TDCi variants is Advanced Common Rail. The displacement of the petrol variant is 1596 cc while that on the diesel variant is 1399 cc. Coming with a five speed manual transmission and fulfilling all the BS IV emission norms, the engine is a charmer from the first site. The engines, though offered across three variants each, show no tweaking in order to alter performance. All the petrol engines come with a maximum output power of 101 PS at 6500 rpm while the diesel engines are offered with a slightly lower 68 PS at 4000 rpm. The torque generated by the vehicle is also decent at 146 Nm at 3400 rpm for the petrol variants while that of the diesel variants is 160 Nm at 2000 rpm.

Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Mileage

All the petrol engine variants offer a decent mileage of 13.8 kmpl while that of the diesel variants fall at an impressive 20 kmpl. The Ford Classic 1.6 Duratec LXi and Ford Classic 1.6 Duratec CLXi are capable of reaching a 100 kmph mark in mere 11.43 seconds while the same for the other petrol variant Ford Classic 1.6 Duratec Titanium is 12.6 seconds. The diesel engines too offer an interesting mileage pick up that varies from variant to variant thought there are no significant changes in the maximum output power or the torque generated by them compared to one another. Ford Classic 1.4 TDCi LXi reaches 100 kmph in 14.5 seconds, Ford Classic 1.4 TDCi CLXi takes 15.5 seconds and the high end Ford Classic 1.4 TDCi Titanium reaches the same in 17.7 seconds.

Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Braking and Safety

Ford classic comes with ventilated disc brakes in the front and self adjusting drum brakes in the rear for all the variants alike. The low end variants LXis come with collapsible Steering column, central lockin, dual rear fog lamps, fuel cut off inertia switch (only for the petrol variant) and passive anti theft system.
Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Braking and Safety
The mid range CLXi comes with all he earlier features along with Programmable keyless entry with Auto relock. And the Titanium variants of both fuel types however come with all these features and a load of other features such as anti lock braking system, fog lamps, driver and passenger airbags, etc.

Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Performance and Handling

Ford Classic is offered with Independent McPherson struts with offset coil spring in the front suspension system and semi independent heavy duty twist beam with twin tube dampers in the rear suspension system. The shock absorbers in both front and the rear section are filled with gas. The car comes with power steering with tilt adjustable steering and other minor features which however would not significantly affect the driving experience of the vehicle.

What do we think about Ford Classic (2012 - 2015)?

Priced at 4.88 lakhs, the car is expected to give at least ABS if not airbags. Keeping these features only to the high end is not totally appreciable. However other features in mind, the Ford Classic is indeed a Classic car to ride and the drive in general is rather smooth and refined. So go for this car but only after you checked Honda Amaze, which is more compact than this and a tad cheaper for similar features.

Ford Classic (2012 - 2015) Competitors

Ford Classic faces fierce competition from Chevrolet Sail, Toyota Etios and Honda City. However another latest competitor to the Ford Classic is the recently popular Honda Amaze that is conquering the compact Sedan market one car at a time.
