I am planning to buy automatic variant of Ford EcoSport and want to know about the advantages and disadvantages of automatic cars in India, especially in Delhi?

The main advantage of an automatic transmission is its driving comfort as it doesn’t have a clutch pedal, you don’t have to change gears or use the clutch in a car having automatic transmission gears, so while driving through the traffic jam in city like Delhi, you don’t need to press the clutch and change gears all the time, it is easier to use. Navigating steep inclines in a automatic transmission is comparatively easy especially if you are trying to do so from a dead stop. There is a reduced risk of stalling in stop-go traffic conditions and it is also convenient to use in heavy traffic as manual transmission needs more involvement of starting, accelerating, stopping, this is not normally a problem but in heavy traffic constant starting and stopping becomes a difficult task hence automatic transmission is more convenient in city driving conditions.
Disadvantage of automatic variant is that it is little expensive than manual one, it required more maintenance compared and delivers less fuel efficiency compare to manual transmission. Automatic transmission gears are designed to select the best gear for any situation but they cannot anticipate an upcoming condition, so they don’t deliver greater control over the vehicles.
