happy with the car pricing

Overall rating: 3.75 Reviewed By: Indrani on 10 October 2014
Exterior very good but fuel economy average. Gearbox is good as far as automatic version is concerned no idea about manual one. Excellent on road and off road, but very bumpy for the rear passenger. Should improve rear shockers for a smooth ride. This is the best car available on road in this price if...  Read More »

Classy looks

Overall rating: 3.75 Reviewed By: Harish on 12 October 2014
The leather seats are nice, the AT gearbox is just perfect. You hear almost no noise of a mammoth engine inside. The music system is fully loaded so nothing is missing it all. The only thing I miss is the omission of audio controls on steering. Engine perform just brilliant. If you are getting 10-11...  Read More »

Ford Endeavour-2013 Overview

An old school SUV based on Ford's pick-up Ranger, the Endeavour has a charm that modern day SUVs lack. Yes, it comes with its own baggage, and if you are looking to live with it in a narrow alley, then it might not fit in, but if you want a big and brawny SUV, then the Endeavour is one of the last few options available of this almost extinct breed.??Keeping the old school design alive, joining the Ford Endeavour are Mitusbishi Pajero Sport and Toyota Fortuner. Other than that, the competition varies from vehicles like the Ssangyong Rexton, and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Ford Endeavour-2013 Exterior

Big, muscular, and truck-like, the Endeavour doesn't shy from exposing its roots. In fact it looks good, and if you have a thing for big vehicles, this might be the one for you. Big imposing front end, followed by a high side profile and a plain rear define this SUV's looks. There are bits and pieces that successfully break the monotony of the design, and eventually prove that an old-school-ish (yes, it's not that old, post the numerous facelifts) can still survive among more car-like rivals.??The overall design is neat, and while the vehicle is imposing because of its size, there's no mean-looking front end on this one. The size and boxy design gives the vehicle added road presence, which obviously, works well in India.

Ford Endeavour-2013 Interior

Big space on the outside translates to a big space on the inside. There's a lot of room, and that's what the vehicle is loved for. It is comfortable, comes it a good set of features, and doesn't really disappoint when it comes to long journeys, not even on bad roads.
There's an inbuilt Sat-Nav, DVD player, and a reverse parking camera too. The dashboard might sport a simple design but much like the rest of the vehicle, it has a charm about itself that gets lost in the busy looking units in more modern cars.??Occupant comfort is good, and given that the cabin's roomy, it would never feel claustrophobic in the Endeavour. Availability of large space makes it a viable option for those who like to spend their weekends away from the city.

Ford Endeavour-2013 Engine & Transmission

Ford has two engines on offer at the moment for the Endeavour, a 2.5-litre and a 3-litre unit. Both are diesels and come with variable geometry turbochargers. The 2.5L engine produces 143PS of power and 330Nm of torque, while the 3L engine makes 156PS of power and 380Nm of torque.
If you choose the latter, there's also a 4x4 version available, which should interest the off-roader type. The other two 4x2 options are rear wheel driven. Also, the 2.5L version is available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox while the 3L versions come only with 5-speed automatic 'boxes.??The automatic makes sense, because it makes driving the hulk of an SUV easier. While it's docile and not really problematic when it comes to driving, even in city traffic, but the added size hampers the ease.

Ford Endeavour-2013 Mileage

The Endeavour might be close to 2-tonnes but it runs on diesel and even the 4wd version can be run as a 2wd when the extra power is not needed at the front wheels. All that gives it an overall fuel consumption figure of about 12 kmpl for the 2.5-litre manual variant, and around 10kmpl for the 3-litre automatic version.??Driving it in 4WD unnecessarily will make it sip more fuel than usual. So, the 4x4 mode should be activated only when it's needed i.e. during off-roading.

Ford Endeavour-2013 Braking and Safety

Yes, it's a big vehicle but the ABS and EBD equipped brakes do their job of shedding speeds. The vehicle comes with ventilated discs up front and drum brakes at the rear.
All variants get front airbags for the driver and passenger, while side airbags are exclusively available on the 3L versions.

Ford Endeavour-2013 Performance and Handling

Lugging almost 2 tonnes of the weight, and a 5-meter long vehicle is not an easy task, but the two engines do their jobs well. The availability of an automatic gearbox is a welcome addition, and so is the 4x4 mechanism, which can be activated on-fly.
As far as handling goes, we shouldn't forget that it's still an old-school SUV. It doesn't like to be hurled around, and the weight and the added overhangs aren't the best ingredients for a sporty vehicle. It can tackle bad roads easily, and when it comes back on the road, the Endeavour will be happy cruising along the straight line.

What do we think about Ford Endeavour-2013?

All three SUVs here, the Endeavour, the Fortuner, and the Pajero Sport, have their roots in pick-ups and utility vehicles. None of them is car-like, and that, in fact, is the best part. In a market, which is slowly drawing itself towards more car-like SUVs, the Endeavour happily follows the old-school route, and still manages to show its charisma.??If you are in for an American SUV that, true to its name, looks and feels huge, the Endeavour is a great option. It comes with nice features, and if you want your true blue SUV to make a trip to the jungles, the Endeavour won't say no. In fact, having a vehicle like it can bring more adventure sports into your life, which is indeed a healthy proposition!

Ford Endeavour-2013 Competitors

The biggest competitor for the Endeavour is the Toyota Fortuner. Another Japanese SUV, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, has been troubling the Endeavour too.??The newer range of SUVs like the Hyundai Santa Fe are less boxy and contemporary, which also makes it easier for them to not look odd when parked alongside a new age car. The Ford Endeavour, on the other hand, has this problem. You can't expect it to gel well with the routine hatchbacks, and compact SUVs. It has a style of its own, and almost a carefree attitude that makes it more charismatic than others.
