Are installing aftermarket xenon (HID) headlights legal in India?

High-intensity discharge (HID) headlights, also known as xenon lights, offer more bright light on the road than standard halogen bulbs and they also consume less power. However, installing xenon bulbs as an aftermarket upgrade opposed to having them fitted on the production line as standard, is not legal because without changing the whole headlamp unit, the lens and reflector for a halogen bulb create a glaring effect and can cause light blindness for a while to drive on opposite side. Xenon bulbs are best when used with projectors as this lets car light flow in same way, else the light spreads out.
