Honda City 2017 Overview
The City is efficient and the diesel variant promises an impressive mileage figure of 26 kmpl (ARAI certified). The sedan shares both its diesel engines with the compact sedan – Amaze and the Hatchback Jazz. The 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine delivers a peak power output of 100PS and a torque of 200Nm. This power unit is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox only.
The City petrol comes powered with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine, which can be bought either with a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT. It offers a maximum power of 119PS with 146 Nm of torque. On the fuel efficiency front, the City petrol leads its class and offers an impressive 17.4 kmpl and 18 kmpl of mileage with manual and automatic transmission, respectively. In terms of drivability, handling and safety, the Honda City has an upper hand as compared to its rivals. With low maintenance cost and cheaper spare parts, the City proves to be a worthy, economical deal. The car’s available in five trims (S, SV, V, VX and ZX), and competes in the segment along with cars like Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento etc.
Honda City 2017 Exterior
The length (4, 440 mm) and width (1, 695 mm) of the car remained unchanged and so does the height and wheelbase measuring 1, 495 mm and 2, 600 mm, respectively. The “arrow-head” front fascia looks very refreshing with redesigned headlights, front fog lamps and foldable ORVMs with turn blinker. The side profile is managed by prominent side crease, chrome door handles, a sunroof and alloy wheels.
The wheels and tyre size of the City has now been upgraded and the highest variant ZX now comes equipped with bigger 16 inch wheels (185/55 R16). Lower variants offer 175/65 R15 wheels. However, tyres feel very skinny and disproportionate. Its rear hasn't received much alteration, but the new shark-fin antenna adds more style to its personality. The Honda City will be offered in six vibrant shades: Modern Steel metallic, Alabster Silver Metallic, Carnelian Red Pearl and White Orchid Pearl, Golden Brown Metallic.
Honda City 2017 Interior

The chunky steering feels good to hold. The driver seat is adjustable and the driving position is quite comfortable. With 2600 mm long wheelbase, the City offers ample legroom and cabin space. The boot space is reasonably purposeful and large measuring around 510 litres.
Honda City 2017 Engine & Transmission

Coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission, it delivers an impressive figure of 17.4 kmpl, while with the automatic transmission, promises an even better mileage figure of 18 kmpl. This power train delivers a peak power output of 117 bhp with 146 Nm of torque. Honda City 2017 Performance and Handling
With a purpose to enhance the engine economy, Honda has boosted the diesel engine with double needle plug and valve timing. Along with this, the low viscosity oil, a high swirl port and an offset crankshaft add more to its performance. The aluminium power unit, and light body built and parts contribute to the overall ride quality and handling of the car. The robust front McPherson struts and rear H-shaped torsion beam suspension system not only improve the sedan’s rigidity by 24 percent, but also absorbs the jerks and bumps very well. The sedan is insulated with high-quality sound insulation material to bring a pleasing driving experience. The turning radius is also well controlled.
What do we think about Honda City 2017?
The competitive pricing along with the low maintenance cost and cheaper spare parts make the Honda City the most alluring deal of the segment.
Honda City 2017 Competitors
All cars in this segment offer a good cabin space with premium level of ease and comfort. Honda City goes a step ahead and offers a sunroof which no other car offers in this segment. With a numbers of bells and whistles, the City offers high level comfort. The plastic quality, features list and the build of City is relatively more impressive than those of Ciaz or even the Verna.
The Verna comes powered with a 1.6-litre VGT diesel engine that produces a decent power and torque outputs. The car is most powerful in the segment, however, there’s significant turbo lag which is quite noticeable. The City diesel is claimed to be the most fuel efficient car of the country, offering an impressive mileage figure of 25 kmpl. The Honda CVT automatic transmission is lighter and more efficient than the standard CVTs. The Honda City impresses with its power and torque outputs. The City behaves well at high speeds, even on rough surfaces. The overall handling and driving dynamics of City are just exceptional in this segment. Undoubtedly, Honda City has an upper hand when it comes to engine power and overall performance.
Since pricing is considered to be one of the most important aspects while buying a car, Honda has kept the City's pricing spot-on. However, Hyundai also doesn't disappoint its buyers in this department. Therefore, in terms of pricing, both the cars are neck and neck.
