Hello Mathew !!
Honda city petrol has 1.5L engine with power 117PS,torque 147Nm. Diesel version has 1.5L engine delivering power of 100P's, torque 200Nm.In petrol version mileage is 17kmpl on average and diesel version 20kmpl can be reliable. With respect to costs, diesel version costs around 1.5L higher as compared to that of respective variant of petrol version. For the kind of usage mentioned, petrol version suits better. Also petrol version maintenance cost slightly less compared to diesel car.In overall petrol version is better option.
Even though a diesel car provides better mileage, it is the petrol run car that comes out trumps because of its lower purchase cost, and especially in situations where the driving requirement is quite less (25 – 50 Km). The diesel variants of Honda City run on a 1.5 litre i-Dtec powertrain giving 1498cc of displacement. The mileage comes to around 26 Kmpl as compared to the petrol’s 17.8 Kmpl or 18 Kmpl. However, if the car runs for greater distances, then diesel option will be best suited.
