There are many variants of the gearboxes - AT, CVT, AMT etc. can you simplify and let me know the best one of all for driving, mileage and overtaking?

The AMT (Automated manual transmission) is the cheapest of them all and CVT stands for (Continiously Variable Transmission) and the Hydraulic Automatic Transmission is the (AT) and the DSG (Dual-clutch). With years almost every technology has evolved and you can find them all in one or the other car. You should not be worried about the underlying principle as long as the manufacturer is promising good mileage figures. Almost every gearbox offers a manual shifting too that you can use to change gear manually in case you wish to overtake and make manual changes. Let me know the car that you have shortlisted. CVTs generally suffer from creep and it can be an irritant.

I am planning to buy an automatic car for long period for family and my preferences are good gearbox and mileage. I drive both in city and on highway and price is not an issue. Please suggest me one among Honda Jazz, Ford Aspire, Honda City and Nissan XV CVT.
