Honda Vezel Preview

The Japanese major auto Honda is planning to launch its all new compact SUV Vezel in India, which made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show earlier this year. The concept version of this urban SUV however debuted at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2013. The vehicle might also be showcased at the Indian Auto Expo in February. The Honda Vezel has been recently launched in Japan at 1.87 million Yen (i.e. around Rs.11.14 lakh). Being an urban SUV, the Honda Vezel will enter the growing compact SUV segment in India, where some very capable products like Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport are already doing really well. The compact SUV will be spacious and up-market than its competitors. The Vezel is expected to come equipped with highly advanced Honda’s original G-Force Control Technology (G-CON), City brake active system, Electric parking brake, Automatic brake hold along with Pedestrian Injury Mitigation Body and Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body. The interior quality will be best in this segment. The front seats offer coupe-like personal space and rear seats offer ample elbow-room like a minivan. The large boot space feels very practical. In Japan, the Honda Vezel is available in eight different shades, two alloy wheels and one steel wheel option, and we are expecting the same options to be offered in India as well. It is likely to get the high-quality soundproofing material and dampers to offer a pleasant drive.

Honda Vezel Exterior

The Honda Vezel is a good looking compact SUV. The sloping lines along well planned C pillar and sharp exterior curves give it a true crossover appearance. However, it shares most of its design with the Jazz hatchback.

Honda Vezel Interior

The interior of the all new Honda Vezel will be inspired from the Jazz and CR-V. It looks very premium in both appearance and texture. Equipped with various bells and whistles, its cabin feels quite comfortable.

Honda Vezel Engine & Transmission

Honda will offer the all new Vezel in 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engines with two-wheel drive (2WD) option. In Japan, the Mini SUV is available with only petrol engines. The 1.5-litre, four cylinder petrol unit produces a peak power of 132bhp and a torque of 155Nm. There's one more electric motor version, but with the same 1.5-litre petrol engine. Both the petrol mills are made available with a CVT or seven speed CVT in two-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD) configuration.

Honda Vezel Mileage

The 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine is expected to deliver a decent mileage of 13kmpl in city and 17-18 kmpl on highways while the 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine is likely to deliver an impressive 18 kmpl in city and 23 kmpl on highways.

Honda Vezel Braking and Safety

Braking performance is excellent and the Vezel is able to shed speed with a load of confidence. When it comes to safety tech Honda Vezel is expected to offer top class and high-end safety features including Anti-lock Brake System, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Automatic Brake Hold as well as Pedestrian Injury Mitigation Body and Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body, G-Force Control Technology (G-CON), Brake Assist, City Brake Active System, Electronic Stability Program and Traction Control System. Moreover the car will come with host of airbags, child safety lock, rear parking etc.

Honda Vezel Performance and Handling

Honda cars have always had excellent driving dynamics and the Vezel is no different. The engines of Vezel are torquey throughout low and mid level rev bands with linear power delivery and you don’t need to shift down frequently to get going. Gearbox is butter smooth and a delight to use with a light clutch for relaxed stop-go driving in traffic. In the city driving conditions, Vezel performs exceptionally well by being easy to drive with punchy low down performance. The steering feels reasonably connected at high speeds offering enough feedback to inspire confidence to push around at triple digits speeds. The 185 mm ground clearance does a fantastic job of keeping the underbelly untouched. The suspension of the Vezel has been tuned slightly stiff but that doesn’t hamper its ride quality. The setup handles smaller potholes and unevenness of the roads smoothly, only the large potholes seep through to the cabin.

What do we think about Honda Vezel?

Vezel is not only comfortable, spacious and safe, it’s a whole lot of fun too with its punchy petrol and diesel engines.

Honda Vezel Competitors

The prominent side lines and sloping lines along the C pillar enhance the sporty personality of the car. The Vezel will be longer than its rivals Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio, Nissan Terrano and Tata Safari. The Vezel will compete against the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster, which are currently dominating the marketplace.

*Disclaimer: The date of launch is tentative and purely based on the information received from OEMs. Autoportal will not be responsible for any discrepancy and delay with the launch dates.

When launched, it will rival other compact SUVs like the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano etc.
