Hyundai Cars in India

In India, Hyundaicars arrived in 1996 and have been wholly owned by the parent company Hyundai Motor Company ever since, which is based in South Korea. Unknown of the Indian car market culture, the brand was not known to the Indian buyers. In fact, Maruti Suzuki had an exclusivity of selling their products in the country, where the main reason was the homegrown brand name, and moreover, other brands like the Mahindra and Tata were more known for commercial and utility vehicles. But, with no doubts, after only a few months of its arrival, the brand became the second largest car manufacturer and the largest car exporter in the country.
Hyundai India set its first production facility in Irungattukottai, Chennai. With the increasing demand of the Hyundai car models, HMIL opened another facility with a capacity of producing 300,000 units annually and in total, both these facilities produce 600,000 units every year. Apart from these two plants, the company has also set up an R&D Centre in Hyderabad; a regional headquarters that has many divisions for planning, products, finance and customer experience; and Indian Quality Centre in Faridabad, Haryana, which is one out of the five in the world.

Hyundai Car Models

At present, the list of Hyundai cars in India includes a total of 9 models in India that includes 2 hatchbacks – the entry-level Hyundai Eon and Hyundai Grand i10; a premium hatchback – Hyundai Elite i20; a crossover based on the Elite i20 – i20 Active; 3 sedans –compact sedan Hyundai Xcecnt, a mid-size sedan Hyundai Verna and a D-segment sedan Hyundai Elantra; and 2 SUV models - Creta and Tuscon. There is no Hyundai sports car in the line-up, but not expected anytime soon.

The first car to join the Hyundai car models list was the Hyundai Santro in 1998 that was a strong stepping to back the Korean car manufacturer in India and has been one of the best Hyundai cars ever since its launch. Thereafter, the company introduced the Accent sedan for the Indian market that was very popular with its low-maintenance cost and reliability. As these two made their ways into the buyers’ heart, so did the Hyundai India.

Hyundai knew that Maruti Suzuki always used to come up with a competitive pricing and, obviously, that was a strong point to attract Indian buyers. There were many products that did not make up to the customers, like the Getz and Sonata, but with the launch of i10 and i20, the company started to give a strong competition to its rivals. These Hyundai cars were in budget and with a package of good features, who would deny to own it. This is what Hyundai India worked on – best package in low budget.

Best Hyundai Cars

Some of the stars from the list of Hyundai cars are Grand i10, which never goes off the best-selling car chart, Elite i20, and in the compact SUV segment is the Creta, while the sedan, Verna has been giving a very tough competition to its direct rivals. Currently, the company exports automobiles to not less than 110 countries across the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Australia, Asia and the EU.
