The new Hyundai elantra is a great car, it has super futuristic looks and the interiors in the all black are very funky as well as unique. But it lacks interior storage spaces and utility spaces. Hyundai Elantra Overview

Hyundai’s executive saloon Elantra is indubitably one of the most modish-looking premium saloons in its segment. The latest version of the saloon houses few styling upgrades on the outside while prominent tweaks have been made inside the cabin. Nothing changes on the mechanical front. That said, the saloon continues to get power from the same set of engines. Available in petrol as well as diesel guises, the Elantra range includes three petrol and four diesel variants along with two automatic options proffered, one each in petrol and diesel engines. The entry level base variant is available only with the diesel engine option. This trim is bereft of various equipment available in the variants positioned above it.
Hyundai Elantra pictures shown below give an insight into the changes made to the saloon. Revivifications made to the exteriors are not very comprehensive; the subtle updates include a changed front apron, which, of course, has received the maximum amount of revamp. The nose has got restyled headlights featuring blacked-out housing, integrated projector constituents and an uber chic LED illuminated strip. Beneath the head lights, redesigned fog lamps are placed. The side profile now features reworked 16-inch alloy wheels and the rear gets newly-designed bumper, featuring a blacked-out lower section. Other than these, the rear also comes equipped with modified tail lights. As mentioned above, eminent revisions have been made inside the cabin, such as the all-black single tone interior colour scheme has replaced the previous dual-tone beige and grey colour palette. Minor tweaks are evident on the dashboard, which now features a new audio system along with a 4.3-inch colour touchscreen, which is also used as the display for the rear view mirror. Metamorphosed air-con vents (in terms of size) have been relocated slightly higher on the dashboard on the left and right sides of the infotainment screen. Metal-finished pedals and blue-on black monochrome air-con display are some of the other vital additions made to the interiors. The engine configuration remains untouched, which implies that petrol variants continue to be powered by a 2.0-litre engine and diesel trims derive power from a 1.6-litre diesel powertrain. Hyundai Elantra transmission options include a manual available on Six trims and an automatic gearbox proffered on three variants. The fuel economy claimed for the diesel trim is quite impressive and Hyundai vouches it to be best in its segment.

Hyundai Elantra Exterior

The front apron gets redesigned projector head lights with LED guide light, which flanks the modified chrome-finished radiator grille. The revised body-coloured front bumper features revamped fog lights with black housings along with air intakes. The fog lights are placed towards the deeper end of the bumper. Body-painted outside rear view mirrors come with integrated turn indicator. Apart from the power-adjusting and power-folding functions, the ORVMs are also bestowed with the electrical heating function. R16 alloy wheels are shod to all four silica tyres and are available as a standard fitment across the range.
Chrome finishing has been done generously on the outside, which includes chrome outside door handles and beltline chrome moulding. Other exterior fitments available on the saloon include a printed glass antenna and an exhaust with chrome finisher. The curvaceous contours of the saloon make it stand apart as far as the designing is concerned, hence making it one of the most visually-appealing premium saloons in D segment. Bestowed with the new generation fluidic design language, Elantra’s silhouette runs smoothly from front to the rear. Rear is equally captivating as the front fascia. At the back, captivating wrap-around tail lights are equipped while slightly changed body-coloured rear bumper features reflectors.

Hyundai Elantra Interior

Hyundai is always careful to provide plush interior and the Elantra being a D1 segment car does feel premium when you enter inside. The waterfall-inspired soothing interiors make the car feel very roomy and nothing feels out of the place. The interiors are well thought and have space to accommodate 5-adults easily and comfortably. The interiors are laden with good leather seats, powered driver seat with lumbar support and a one-touch sunroof. There are ample cup holders and pockets all over the car for keeping papers, files or small devices. The Elantra also offers two 12V sockets - one in the rear for the passengers, which adds 0great convenience. Hyundai also equips the Elantra with rear AC vents, auto cruise control, heated outside rear view mirror, cooled glove box, driver side controlled power window buttons, sliding armrest, and tilt and telescopic steering column.
Elantra comes with advanced audio system with a 2-DIN audio radio, CD and MP3 player. The system is well connected with options like USB, AUX-in, iPod cable and Bluetooth. The sound flows through a good system consisting of four speakers and two tweeters. The steering wheel has stereo control buttons and the driver can also answer the call without moving around too much. The outside mirrors can also be adjusted from the driver seat. Hyundai Elantra is often driven by chauffeurs and keeping that in mind, Hyundai has provided the option of volume controls for the rear seat passengers too. Few of the range-topping exclusive features available in AT trims include supervision cluster and eco indictor with automatic transmission. Other comfort features embedded in the cabin for the convenience of occupants, like steering with audio remote and bluetooth function, sliding front centre armrest with storage, rear seat armrest with storage box and power outlet, sunglasses holder, power windows (front and rear), driver side auto up-down (safety power window), safety escort headlamps, glove box cooling, title and telescopic steering, driver seat height adjuster, one touch triple turn signal, aluminium pedals (clutch, brake and accelerator), manual transmission shift indicator (for MT trims only) and alternator management system are offered as standard fitments across the Elantra squad.

Hyundai Elantra Engine & Transmission

Petrol variants get power from a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, 16 valve, DOHC with dual VTVT gasoline engine. The petrol mill features multiple injection system and is capable of outputting towering power of 149.5 PS at 6500 RPM along with peak torque of 192Nm at 4700 RPM. The diesel trim derives power from a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, 16-valve diesel power train bestowed with DOHC with VGT technology.
The diesel mill gets common rail direct injection fuel system and dishes out a pinnacle power of 128 PS at 4000 RPM along with 26.5 Kgm of top torque ranging from 1900 to 2750 RPM. The manual variants feature six-speed manual transmission and automatic variants get six-speed H-Matic automatic gearbox.

Hyundai Elantra Mileage

Company claims that the 1.6-litre CRDi, VGT diesel power train is very frugal in nature and yields best-in-class ARAI-rated fuel economy of 22.7 km in a litre. The petrol variant, on the other hand, is tuned to deliver slightly less fuel efficiency as compared to the diesel engine, for obvious reasons.

Hyundai Elantra Braking and Safety

Front and rear axles get disc brakes, which work mutually with evidently robust braking equipments, such as anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution. Brake assist is missing from the adept braking system. From the safety brigade, Elantra gets dual front airbags equipped in all variants, while side and curtain airbags are confined to the SX and SX AT trims.
Some of the other safety features present in the SX and SX AT variants include electronic stability control, speed sensing auto door lock, vehicle stability management and automatic headlight control. The only feature available exquisitely in the SX AT trims is hill start control. Preeminent safety equipments proffered as standard among all variants are rear parking sensors, impact sensing door unlock, clutch lock, rear defogger with timer, front height adjustable seatbelts with seatbelt pretensioners and ignition key reminder. The diesel base variant comes bereft of electro chromic mirror bestowed on the rest of the trims.

Hyundai Elantra Performance and Handling

When it comes to performance, the premium saloon from the clan of Hyundai keeps its promise of delivering an admirable performance, though you may feel a little disappointment when it comes to handling, as it feels a little soft.
