The petrol version of Hyundai Elite i20 is less powerful than its diesel variant, The petrol is a 1197cc four-cylinder 1.2-litre Kappa engine producing 83bhp and 113Nm of torque mated to a five-speed manual gearbox while the diesel variant is 1396cc powered by the 1.4-litre CRDI mill producing 89bhp and 219Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual gearbox but the Petrol version cannot be said underpowered as 1197cc engine is well sufficient for this size of car and there are other cars like Honda Amaze, Honda Brio, Hyundai Elite etc has the same capacity of engine moreover even there are cars which have only 800-900 cc engine and cannot be called underpowered cars.

Yes, compared to the diesel engine the petrol engine appears to be a bit underpowered. The diesel version is equipped with a 1.4-litre engine that has 4-cylinders and 16-valves. It can produce a maximum power of 88.76bhp at 4000rpm along with a commanding torque output of 219.6Nm in the range of 1500 to 2750rpm. While the petrol version has been fitted with a 1.2-litre Kappa engine that has multi point fuel injection system, which allows the motor to belt out 81.90bhp of power at 6000rpm that results in a maximum torque output of 114.7Nm at just 4000rpm.
The petrol variant of Hyundai Elite i20 uses a 1.2 litre 16 valve 4 cylinder Kapa VTVT engine. The engine layout is fantastic for a car of this size. This engine produces a maximum power of 82 bhp and an extreme torque of 115 Nm. These figures are quite impressive and the power is competitive to its rivals like Volkswagen Polo and Maruti Swift. This shows that Hyundai’s Elite i20 is not underpowered at all.
The diesel variant of Hyundai Elite i20 is more powerful that its petrol version. The 1.4 litre U2 16 valve 4 cylinder CRDi diesel engine produces a maximum power of 90 bhp whereas the 1.2 litre 16 valve 4 cylinder Kapa VTVT petrol engine musters a maximum power of 82 bhp. The power produced by this petrol engine is enough for such hatchbacks.
The petrol engine of Hyundai Elite i20 is very much refined and smooth. The same engine is being used in cars like Hyundai i10 and Hyundai grand i10. The engine is capable enough and churns out a maximum power of 82 bhp at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 115 Nm at 4000 rpm. Honda’s Brio has the same engine layout and it produces a maximum power of 88 bhp which is best in class. Thus we can say that the petrol version is not underpowered.
