    KIA Cars in India

KIA Motorscars grabbed eyeballs among the international audience in August 2014, when Pope Francis of the Catholic Church was seen moving in one of their compact sedans the KIA Soul. Not many knew back then that KIA Motors was the second largest automobile manufacturer in South Korea close behind the ever-popular Hyundai Motor Company, which also owns a minority stake in the auto giant.

    KIA Motors Cars

KIA has been focussing on the European & US market since 2005 & 2006 and after establishing itself as a brand to reckon with, it has now shifted its focus to one of the most lucrative car markets i.e. India. KIA Motors India is building a massive manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district where it is expected to roll out 300,000 Kia car models in a year starting from 2019. It is expected to invest close to a whopping $1.1 billion in order to develop and expand its operations, which showcases the seriousness with which it is approaching this booming automobile market. No wonder the Internet is loaded with amazing Kia car images!

KIA car models that will roll out in India

Following the recent trends, KIA is hoping to cash in on the booming SUV market with its SUV-SP2 Concept, which is tentatively referred to as the Kia Trazor and is expected to roll out of the plush factory by mid-2019. Interestingly, the signature Tiger Nose Grill will get an India-specific makeover, in addition to the smart and sharp design elements, such as the Dynamic Turn Indicators on the OVRM’s, LED-based tail lights and headlamp eyebrows. As far as the engine is concerned, it will get a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine. It will be aggressively priced at around INR 15 lakh to take on its closest competitors, i.e., Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur.

As showcased during the Auto Expo 2018, KIA is keen on pursuing the luxury compact sedan market as well. Furthermore, it has shown the inclination to position the magnificent Kia Stinger to take on the likes of Mercedes C4 3MG & Audi S5. It will be a performance GT car equipped with a twin turbo 3.3-litre V6 engine, complete with an 8-speed auto gearbox. It is worth to note that this car has been nominated for the world car of the year, results for which are expected to come out in October 2018. Stinger is expected to be available to the Indian customers by early 2020 and is expected to be priced at an aggressive 17 lakhs plus.

The Kia Picanto is modelled after its close cousin, the Hyundai I10, and available in 1.0-Litre Petrol and 1.2 litre Diesel variants to take on Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the facelifted Renault Kwid.

Other key additions to this impressive fleet of KIA car models will include the Kia Soul (Hatchback) expected to start at Rs. 10 Lakh, Kia Stonic (SUV)  at Rs. 9 Lakh, Kia Rio (Hatchback) at Rs. 6 Lakh and Kia Sportage (SUV) at an impressive Rs. 15 Lakh. The Kia car prices in India clearly reflect that the brand is going to offer several options to cater to all kinds of audience. Almost all of them are expected to grace the Indian roads from June 2020.

The prospects that lie ahead for KIA Motors

KIA Motors India has set a not-so-easy objective of capturing 6-7% of the market share by the end of 2021 while overtaking Volkswagen, Nissan, Ford and Renault in the process, which is not going to be easy. KIA will need to sell more than 300,000 Kia car models to surpass the previously-mentioned players and then to pose a credible challenge to Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, which are at a commanding position, and enjoy favourable goodwill among its Indian customers at the moment.

On the global front, the brand has made a determined announcement of introducing 25 Kia cars by the year 2025, and as envisioned by the Indian government to phase out petrol and diesel cars around that same timeline. KIA’s electric cars should be able to make inroads into this nascent yet promising Indian EV market.

KIA Motors cars in India have a long road ahead but with the brand’s experience of operating in an overseas market, aggressive Kia car prices and an impressive portfolio of cars, the brand should be able to sail through to become one of the key players in this cramped yet lucrative Indian automobile market.
