KIA Rio Preview

The South Korean automaker, Kia is gearing up for its India debut by 2020. It gave a glimpse of the expected line-up at the 14th edition of the Delhi Auto Expo which also included the Kia Rio hatchback which could be launched in India sometime next year or in 2020. Interestingly, the Kia Rio will be based on the Hyundai-Kia GB platform which also underpins its Korean cousin, Hyundai i20. Set to venture into the premium hatchback segment, the Kia Rio price in India could be placed between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

The Kia Rio 2018 sports crisp lines and smooth surfaces on the body. Up front, it features Kia’s quintessential Tiger nose grille and swooping multi-reflector halogen headlamps. Fog lamps are flank the functional air vents on the bumper. At the side, it equips scooped out doors and 15-inch alloy wheels. The Kia Rio images clearly show the upright rear which comes with a large windscreen.

The interior kit on the Kia Rio hatchback includes a slew of features such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity options including Apple CarPlayas well as Android Auto. Besides, expect the cabin to be spacious enough to seat occupants comfortably. In addition, the Kia Rio feature list could include cruise control, manual AC, day/night IRVM, six-way adjustable driver’s seat,etc.

KIA Rio Engine & Transmission

The Kia Rio hatchback is expected to share engines with the Hyundai i20, which implies it could get the 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre units in petrol and diesel guise. While the transmission options are expected to include a manual as well as an automatic gearbox.

KIA Rio Mileage

Likely to use the same engines as the Hyundai i20, expect Kia Rio to deliver impressive fuel economy. Though, the exact figures are yet unknown, the Kia Rio hatchback is expected to return similar mileage as its Korean cousin.

KIA Rio Braking and Safety

In terms of safety, the Kia Rio 2018 is expected to feature a bunch of primary tech including as many as six airbags, anti-lock-braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning system and vehicle stability control.

KIA Rio Performance and Handling

Likely to share engine options with the Hyundai i20, it is expected to offer similar performance as the premium hatchback from Hyundai. However, Kia is yet to corroborate details and hence it is too premature to comment on this.

What do we think about KIA Rio?

Sharing underpinnings and engine line-up with the Hyundai i20, the Kia Rio hatchback is also expected to feature similar equipment. In terms of looks, the Kia hatchback will vary copiously with its Korean cousin. Overall, expect a well equipped and frugal hatchback from Kia in the B+ segment.
